speedyblue Posted February 25, 2004 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2004 I just threw a 280zx radiator into my 240Z because the original one is shot. I can't put the bonnet on just yet, but it looks like it will hit the radiator because it sits higher. The 280zx is a 1983 model. Does anyone know off the top of their head if it will hit and how much it needs to be lowered by?ThanksScott Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10387-280zx-radiator-into-240z/ Share on other sites
datto_240z Posted February 25, 2004 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2004 lightly close the bonnet, measure the gap between the heighest point of the radiator and the front bodywork and then drop it down about 100mm? 200mm? just make sure it doesn't scrape the groundROFL Cheer'z'Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10387-280zx-radiator-into-240z/#findComment-69895 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted February 25, 2004 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2004 Well, I know that the ZX radiator is taller. I compared them side by side in the junkyard once. I decided to have my stock radiator redone because I was concerned about how the fan shroud would line up if I lowered the ZX radiator. speedyblue Posted February 25, 2004 Author Share #4 Posted February 25, 2004 I don't have to worry about the fan shroud because I run thermo fans instead. Much quieter under the bonnet.I can't put the bonnet on for a while yet because the front is stripped bare, hinges, headlights and all in the ready for fittment of a G-nose so I can't go by trial and error.ThanksScott Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/10387-280zx-radiator-into-240z/#findComment-69903 Share on other sites
St.stephen Posted February 25, 2004 Share #5 Posted February 25, 2004 FWIW, I once used a ZX radiator in my 280. I found it in a car in the boneyard however it was brand new..I pulled it out and had a guy at the yard remove the mounting brackets on the side of the ZX radiator and remove and replace the ones off of my 280 and put them on the ZX radiator. worked like a charm.
