z_boi Posted March 15, 2004 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2004 Ok, I tried to take off the egr on my 77 280z(stock efi) and the 2 bolts holding it snapped. Now i Have The spacer that sits between the egr and the manifold is stuck on there. I tried to pry it off with no luck. Any suggestions anyone? If the bolts were fine i'd jus cap it off from there but the bolts are pretty rusted and need to come off. I need to get it off so that i can cap it. Its either that or i get the manifold cut and rewelded to get rid of the egr. TomoHawk Posted March 15, 2004 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2004 1. SOAK2. SOAK3. SOAKI mean liquid wrench or whatever penetrating potion you like. You could probably wedge the spacer off, then get a vicegrips on the bolts.Just take the time to do it right the first time. z_boi Posted March 15, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted March 15, 2004 i use pb blaster on it. then i hammered a chizzle between the manifold and the spacer but it wont even budge. I was thinkin maybe i'll cut the spacer to try and get it off. I guess ill somehow try to soak it wit sometin and try not to get it into the manifold. hopefully it'll come off. TomoHawk Posted March 15, 2004 Share #4 Posted March 15, 2004 Sounds like you didn't let it soak in long enough. It has to come off somewhow, maybe heat the spacer so it expands & pops off itself? TomoHawk Posted March 15, 2004 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2004 If you tried everything else, then you'll have to cut as much as possible off (leaving the bolts), then get the bolts out, and grind off what's left.Make sure you use plenty of penetrating oil on the bolts. Maybe it'll work on the valve too. Soak overnight. Take your time! You can spend a day or two on the valve, or $200 on a new intake. Im lettin it soak in some wd40 rite now, litterally soaking. hopefully it'll help. if not, i'll jus have to cut it. We'll see wat happens tomorro.
