Today I replaced the fuel pump and still no change. A friend of mine was here and we were able to keep it running and remove plug wires from each cylinder in turn. When the fourth cylinder wire was removed, there was no change and my friend became convinced that the problem might be the injector on this cylinder due to the new plug wire and plug. The injector has not been changed. Another symptom that I failed to mention, involves the "hunting" noticed on the Tach. The RPM's vacilates even though you are holding the gas steady. Also I noticed that the Tach will momentarily drop to almost zero RPM's and then recover to the vacilating condition mentioned.

You can do this by removing the injectors from the intake, still leaving them on the rail.

Now with six small baby food bottles or the like, trigger the car like your starting it.

You will see which ones are working and ones that are not or are not spraying correctly.

I forgot to mention though this is a small thing, make sure that your PCV is clean and not clogged.

Just something else to look at as well.

By the way did fuel pressure go up? A bad injector just the same wouldnt keep your fuel pressure low.

Still not running well. I have replaced another injector and the Distributor, but no change. Just for fun, I adjusted the valves. Also got another air flow device but have not replaced it yet and a friend suggested the cold start injector might be the problem. I feel like I may rebuild the whole car before I find the problem. Can anyone tell me where the TPS is on this car?

Though it is referred to as one, the actual name for it is throttle valve switch.

It is located on the side of the throttle body. You should get at least a chilton or haynes so that you can do some basic testing. www.courtesynissan.com sells FSM's on cd for 65 dollars I think

Well worth the information on them.

I am still having problems. I have noticed that the new plugs, that I installed at the start of this project, were all "sooted up". I realize this is an indication the fuel mixture is incorrect, but don't know what to look at to remedy the situation. It still runs rough and won't idle after changing from Bosh to NGK's. Can I somehow test the Air Flow Meter? Thanks for any help anyone can afford.

ChipF47,

I picked my car up from a local import garage on Friday. It turns out that when I took my car to have Pep Boys perform the tune up they installed Platnium spark plugs. Once a new set of copper plugs were in the car, it was up and running. No more black smoke. He said that Z cars do not like Platnium plugs.

The TPS is on the side of the AFM. 2 screws and a connector. Good Luck.
