frank13 Posted April 26, 2004 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2004 Today at the MSA show I saw a Z converted to rear disc brakes WITH a backing plate. This looked very right! I don't remember the color of the Z only that it was on MotorSports side of the street, right around the front just off to one side. Just the rear rotros looked trick but not ALL tricked out. Which is cool. But with the backing plates it looks all OEM. Very cool. Very trick looking without having to be. If any of your cats have any information or what this finishing touch entails please post! Also good to see Victor, Steve, and Mr & Mrs chino240z. TomoHawk Posted April 26, 2004 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2004 I bet the backing plate was just cut presicely to fit around the caliper. Maybe grind off any projections, too. The caliper bracket should fit without removing the backing plate.Unless the caliper was attached to the backing plate?? LanceM Posted April 26, 2004 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2004 It probably wouldn't be hard to take plates from a ZX and use them. Lance Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11431-rear-disc-conversion/#findComment-78615 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted April 27, 2004 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2004 The trick is to look for the late 80 early 81 Maxima since all the rear brake stuff on those cars unbolts rather than having to be cut off. frank13 Posted April 27, 2004 Author Share #7 Posted April 27, 2004 What I am going for is to find out an exact item year and model that would work with the conversion to the 240Z. That way while at the breakers I might be able to grab the splashsheilds that WILL work from the get go. Maybe just fitting some on with the same bolt pattern a'la LanceM, sblake and simply cut on them a'la Toyota 4pot WITH sheilds. Anybody that went see the Z in question? I think it might have been blue? Perhaps somebody knows whose it was. :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11431-rear-disc-conversion/#findComment-78672 Share on other sites
mimzey Posted April 27, 2004 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2004 I was at the show on Sunday with my boyfriend and we were talking with Rob from Pierre'Z. I believe the car you are referring to was his work. It was situate in front of Pierre's booth. He explained to us how he converts the braking system on the Z car. What he told us makes a lot of sense (safety concerns) and we are planning on upgrading the brakes on our 1971 240. I've been acquainted with Pierre's shop for about a year now and I recommend them for anything Z. They have always been very helpful during my (ongoing) restoration. Hope this helps. frank13 Posted April 27, 2004 Author Share #9 Posted April 27, 2004 Is that the right speeling? Mimzey, what's up? Just by your name I know I seen you and you guy walking around!! Yes, I know PierreZ. They have worked on my engine in the past. Was it a blue Z. And was it the ONE WITH THE PIERREZ on the windshield? After they closed to the public with the Nissan store thing I haddn't been back. Couldn't find their #, not listed, no web sight, and just never seem to want to sit in 110-10 traffic when the might be open. When I seen the little both set up He had I walked right up and graped a card. Mimzey, you or your man remember this set up in question. Or did/have you guys seen this set up before? :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11431-rear-disc-conversion/#findComment-78696 Share on other sites
mimzey Posted April 27, 2004 Share #10 Posted April 27, 2004 Yes, that's correct, "mimzey". Nickname for me and now it's on my car license. I don't recall the specific car that displayed the brake conversion. If it was located near Pierre's booth, then I would guess it's the same one. I visited Pierre's shop a couple months ago and happened to watch Rob do a conversion that day. He explained his method (which of course I didn't understand all that well). We plan on driving our little Z car quite a bit when she's finally restored. Knowing the brakes will be beefed up, in this day and age, expands our comfort zone. Hopefully we will be able to show our "mimzey" in next year's show. I have Pierre's address and telephone if you are interested.
