I developed the amp meter bounce after installing my electric fan, kenwood audio, sony amp,xm,updated r-134 a/c,electric fuel pump for the 44's and with power windows & mirrors it was too much draw for the stock setup;I upgraded to the 60amp zx setup, added the diode so the ignition could be turned off and guess what,PERFECT! I just drove 1800 miles to Conn & back, headlights bright & battery posts cold. If your loaded down with all the extras go for the upgrade, its a bolt on and it works perfect;By the way I tied for Best of Show at the Conneticut Z Club.Mr Sharp was there with several 2008 GT-33 350Z's,the mods look nice. One of the cars are on ebay now!

Good Luck! :)

I've got a 1971 240z that I have upgraded the alternator to the 60 Amp kit with Diode.  It is an internally regulated alternator.  I've also done the parking and headlight harness relay upgrade and upgraded the fuse box to the blade type.  Overall it works great.  All of these upgrades and a new battery were done last March.

Occasionally, my amp gauge will bounce between + and - when I initially start the car and this may last for a few minutes or more, it will then settle down and only move when I put on the turn signals or switch on the headlights.

It happens intermittently.  This morning on my drive to work it bounced for about 15 minutes.  Later in the day when I drove to lunch it was rock solid from start up.

Any thoughts on where to begin my investigation on the source of the problem?
