At 5.90 hr you should start with a good tune-up. Everything else would be some serious $.

Headers 150 (ceramic coated? add 150)

Exhaust 150

Cam 500

Ignition 100+

And these are just estimates, personally the L28 makes pretty good HP. Spend your money on fixing her up. Suspension, interior paint etc.. then when you get that pay raise you can start saving for some extra ponies.

The best bang for your bucks would be to install a 390 differential, that is after you tune the engine which mostly is just adjustments. Just a word here , make vary sure the brakes are in good working condition and the car is safe before you start thinking of how fast it will go. I dont want to read about you killing some family because you were out of controll and couldent stop. I know you don't want to hear this but with these cars come responsibility. Good luck.

First make sure the engine is in good tune. Like beandip suggested do all your adjustments and timing and the like. Move on to your braking system and make sure it is up to par.

Then the next best thing you can do is work on the suspension. Bushing replacement is a must. Then struts and springs.

After that, move on to engine mods. A 78 5 speed with a 4:11 would make it accelerate quite nicely.
