Okay, I know this a little unfair to the Aussie's and othere countries, my apologies, but for all the 260z owners thats cars were produced in 1973-1975 I would like to know your Vin#, production date on door jam for the US cars, and wether your car is an early or late 2/2 or 2-seater. I have always been curious on this and no one has ever done this. If there is/are any 240z details on your car that were in transition if your car is a 1973 also state them ie; 240z bumpers, wood handle and knob, etc.. This is just out of curiosity.

My Car:

Vin#: RLS30-034436

Door jam date: 5/74

Topy designation: 4/74

Seatbelts: right: 1973

left: 1974

everything on my car is from the 260z since my car was right in the middle of the production of the early 260's here in the US. I believe that the late 260z's in the US started production in September. Maybe we can solve this one or come close to it if anyone has a later model made earlier than 9/74.

Thank you in advance,

Ben:)

FYI

RLS30-000013 and -000014 were the last S30 to be officially imported to Sweden. Both were red with the special headlamp cleaning device required by law. #13 was in an accident about 10 years ago and was scrapped. #14 still exist. It's had the same owner for over 20 years. It was modified with T-bird taillights the last time I saw it I think 1991.

Thomas, that is interesting about the sweedish cars. Too bad one was wrecked, and I could not imagine a Zed with Thunderbird tail lights.

Chris, where are you getting that information, just out of curisiosity?

I am not sure how many Us spec 260z pace cars were made, but I do know of one that was RLS30-000020 according to zhome.com.

Mine is RLS30-012443 build date 11/73' (early) emerald green. Originally purchased in Oregon moved to California then Arizona now here on the East coast.

Funny thing the original owner has the same last name as me. Back into the family!:surprised

The late model has the 280 bumpers, grille, taillights etc. They were made late for 9/74-11/74 with VINs from RLS30 060001-200000 for the 2 seaters and GRLS30 015001-060000 for the 2+2. The early model has the 73 240 bumpers and was made 8/73-8/74 VINS RLS30 000001-060000, 2 seaters only. As I recently learned, the late models were sold as 74 or 74.5 though some got registered as 75. The reason that would be a problem is with flat top carbs it would be tough to pass smog in states that check 75s because the test would actually be based on the 75 280Z w/fuel injection and other 'upgraded' emissions equipment. The consesnus would probably be that the early model is more collectible since it is the more '240Zish' of the two.
