TomoHawk Posted June 15, 2004 Share #13 Posted June 15, 2004 I like using 'Cast-Blast' cast-iron paint on suspension & underbody stuff, or just a polyurethane clear. jimbo99 Posted June 16, 2004 Share #14 Posted June 16, 2004 I was wondering what everybody thinks of this. After reading in Wick Humbles "How to restore your Datsun Z car" that the original steel hupcaps should be painted the same color as the rear finisher. What I'm doing is painting a banged up hup cap with Dupli-Color WP 102 Graphite, a top coat of WP 103 Wheel coating clear amd then Clear Matte top coat. I hope to get a good result. Hope to get a similar result as whats posted in the gallery 1974 DATSUN 260Z - RLS30-020697 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12172-color-for-grillrear-tail-light-panel/?page=2#findComment-85380 Share on other sites
v12horse Posted June 16, 2004 Share #15 Posted June 16, 2004 I just painted finished painting my grill last night. I started with a Rust Tough primer after sanding with 600 grit/wet. Then I sanded the thick coat of primer with 600 wet again. Color was added, and I used the Dupli-Color Graphite WP102, and then the Rust-oleum 1902 matte clear. Here is the first picture. I should have taken the photos of the grill before it was installed, but after it was dry I was too excited. I had to put it on. I am really happy with the color and finish. v12horse Posted June 16, 2004 Share #17 Posted June 16, 2004 This looks so much better than my rusted, paint splotched grill. Ben:classic: p.s. I am going to wash her tomorrow because she is very dusty as everyone can probably tell. v12horse Posted June 16, 2004 Share #18 Posted June 16, 2004 Hi Jimbo, I am interested in how your wheel cover comes out as I would like to do this someday as buying hubcaps in immaculate condition is very costly. It's nice to see other 260z owners that love there cars here in the US.:classic: Take care,Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12172-color-for-grillrear-tail-light-panel/?page=2#findComment-85396 Share on other sites

psdenno Posted May 31, 2014 Share #22 Posted May 31, 2014 A little pricey when you consider $14 for shipping and assumes the grille and tail light finisher have the same color and finish.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12172-color-for-grillrear-tail-light-panel/?page=2#findComment-448858 Share on other sites
Arne Posted June 1, 2014 Share #23 Posted June 1, 2014 If the tail light finisher in the picture has been painted with that paint, it's too glossy. I wouldn't use it. ZCurves Posted June 3, 2014 Share #24 Posted June 3, 2014 I have had pretty good success (IMHO) approximating the original shade and finish using the following:Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating – HWP102Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Multi-Purpose Paint – 1902 Matte ClearI used this technique a couple of years ago (See post # 5). Turned out fantastic! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12172-color-for-grillrear-tail-light-panel/?page=2#findComment-449107 Share on other sites
