So right Bill. Some people should never have kids. I feel for you Bill, no six year old deserves broken ribs. I can't imagine you or anybody doing anything to deserve that kind of abuse.

Chris

PM coming to you.

There is a clear line between punishment, and just plain old arse beating.

Corporal punishment is legal in some states, I live in Texas and it is legal.

But the line gets drawn when the hitting goes as far as broken bones or busted lips...now thats a crime.

My wife and I have never had children so I do not claim to be an expert on raising children. We were foster parents for several years. All of these kids were lovely children but many came to us as a result of parental punnishment and discipline ranging from isolation to corporal punnishment. Some were bannished to closets for long periods of time (days, weeks), deprived of food, deprived of TLC, beaten, slapped, spanked, you think of a word that describes abuse and we had them. Many of the parents had justified their treatment of their children as dicipline, teaching them a lesson, etc To talk to the parent, they would tell you that they were completely within their rights to treat their kids however them deemed appropriate. Unfortunately, some got a little carried away. So, Frank13, I really disagree with your point of view.

It takes a licence to fish, hunt, drive, keep a dog (in many places) ; you need permits to rewire your house, build a garage addition. A couple must get a license to marry. But anyone can go out and have children, perhaps one of the biggest and rewarding things a person can do.

Like I said, we never had children. Looking back at it I believe I was not ready for children until after we had been foster parents. That was a real learning experience.

billramsey2002,

Mate, that father of yours needs HIS arse kicked good and hard. No parent has the right to treat his kid that way.

You say he beat your mum ???? Does he regard himself as a man ???? As far as I am concerned he's a hell of a lot less of a man. No MAN beats up on women.

What you suffered was ABUSE. That's a far cry from DISCIPLINE.

Now, I was brought up the old fashioned way. You know the old saying, "Spare the rod and spoil the child". Even if I do say so, I reckon I turned out pretty good. No criminal record, married for 37 years, a son who has two degrees in psychology who reckons the best thing I ever did for him was to bring him up the old fashioned way.

The occasional smack on the bum for a misdemeanor, tempered with lots of T.L.C. is far, far different to physical abuse.

Rick.

P.S.

CRIKEY !!!!! KEN,

You stirred up a hornets nest with this one. Rather a STRANGE subject for this forum huh ????????

Attaboy Bill, you just keep doing the right things!! Like Rick said you dont hit a women which is why I put up with my mother beating me till I was 15. Then out into the real world I went. Its amazing that some people will rent an apartment (shithole) to a 15 year old kid who's still in high school and has a part time job. Thank God they did. I grew up fast. And I think I turned out all right too. Worked the same job for 14 years now, my own house, married for 13 years, 8 month old son, etc etc.

With your wit and a good head on your shoulders Bill, you'll be fine.

And this is supposed to be in the funnybone section!

Maybe I'll tell a really bad joke and see what happens next! :classic:

ROFLLOL

This might help ken,

Ancient Egypt was old. It was inhabited by gypsies and mummies who all wrote in hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate of the Sarah is such that all the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.

Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but the Commandos made it.

Solomon had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. He was an actual hysterical figure as well as being in the Bible. It sounds like he was sort of busy too.

They say laughter is the best medicine.
