I've had some time to dig around in the code to find out why the login code wasn't working right.

Here's a simplified version of the problem I fixed.

If you weren't logged in and tried to REPLY to a message, the system would prompt you to enter username and password. Well, after you typed in the info, you would see a "PAGE NOT FOUND" error...

To test this, just click log-out. Now, open a forum and a message. Try to reply... the system will prompt you. After you type in your login information, you should see a confirmation, "Thanks for logging in NAME"....

Anyway, I never saw this message because I have a bad habit of never logging out when I leave my computer. So, when I come back, the system remembers that I was logged in and continues my session. This is called a cookie.

If some of you could test this for me, I would appreciate it. And, if you see any more log-in problems (or just blank pages or links), please let me know.

Zeee ya.

Gee Mike, I told you about that when you changed to the XP. BTW, is it possible we still have a problem with the news links? I read your post about the backup and the next two or three times I tried the users online function it was still saying I was viewing that thread. Is it the same as the problem with the Top Stories you were working on? Which, by the way, did cure the problem. I guess what I'm asking is that if a cookie is used to view these is it possible they are staying with the user?

I just happened to think of something else, when I up-dated to the IE6 I had to go into the security on the browser to allow the cookies on the site. The browser has a security setting to prevent cookies from being used unless it is allowed by the user. Just thought I'd say that so that anyone who is going to update will know about it. Took me almost an afternoon to figure it out, but we all know what a techno-idiot I am.:(

mperdue,

I suspect your security settings might be a problem. It's just an idea, but, try this.

Open up the settings for IE and configure this domain (240z.org) as a trusted site. Or, enable all cookies. Try one at a time.

If you enable all cookies, then you might want to limit cookies from our site only.

If this fixes your problem, then good... You can rest assured that data from our site is safe.
