What do you think about a 383 450HP engine swap for a 1970's 240Z? I'm thinking about this, and I don't own a Z yet, but I know I can afford one and the engine and the 700R4 tranny probably costs more than the car, but it sounds fun anyway.

I am on the fence about this, I do want a 240Z. I am a converted Honda fan and now the government is taking it away from me due to Smog issues. Not worth fixing it.

Any comments?

It's a free country, do as you like. Most members here, I believe, are stedfast owners of original stock or slightly modified 6 cylinder Z cars. That's the reason we participate on this site. However, there is a site called Hybridz that focuses on Z cars with V8's and other transplanted engines. That's OK too if that's what you desire. Persuing input, regarding a V8 transplant in a Z car, on this site is going to get you alot of, well shall I say, interesting or otherwise different opinions. Trust me on this one!!!

Anyway, if I may impose, do some homework (research) on the Z car before you jump off the deep end, for you never know now deep the water is until you look. As an owner of a 1970 240Z for 21 years, I can tell you these cars are a total hoot! And that's putting it mildly.

Good luck with your adventure............

I found a mint condition Z432, one lady owner, 28,000kms on the clock.

I'm gonna rip the original engine out and plop in a Hemi! ROFL

Just jokes. Actually, I have secret "transplant" desires of my own, not that I'd ever do it. A supercharged 4.0litre straight 6 out of a Jaguar XJR - I'd use the wheels too (from the earlier XJR model, 1995 to 1998 I believe?).

Problem is, the XJR transmission is too wide, so I'd have to widen my Z by about a foot! :stupid:

You know... The funny thing is that just this past Saturday some "Kid" (May have been 25 you know... :P ) pulled up in the alley behind the house and ask "Say does that little car you are working on there in the garage need a V8? I have a small block for sale. It is in a Malibu station wagon right now, but I need to sell it to pay for my new wheels and tires. It makes like 450HP, is a 350, bored .060 oversize...."

Well you get the drift. Apparently he didn't notice the completely rebuilt and repainted L24 sitting on the engine stand right next to the car.

Such a deal... but I had to turn him down. Can't blame him for trying.

Dude! Just joking - take a chill pill, I would never defile a Z, let alone a Z432 ROFL (I knew that would get someone going)

I would make some comment about sarcasm being hard to detect online after that post proxlamus, except for the fact that so many 'special' people have been showing up lately talking about doing horrible things to great cars! I can certainly understand it becoming hard to sort seriousness from joking
