Alfadog Posted August 19, 2004 Share #25 Posted August 19, 2004 Wow, sounds like you guys had lots of problems... I guess I shouldn't have taken my system for granted! 2.25" header back with a Lukey muffler (I have not heard a better muffler on a Z yet) for $240 Aussie and never had any problems with speed bumps. My suspension was at the stock ride height, though. TomoHawk Posted August 19, 2004 Share #26 Posted August 19, 2004 Has anyone tried the Monza system from VB? 240ZMan Posted August 28, 2004 Share #27 Posted August 28, 2004 I too bought the MSA 6:1 header and premium 2 1/2" pipe system and had problems getting things to fit. Got my independant local muffler guy to do the work and add a glass pack to knock the noise down a little - my neighborhood doesn't have much of a sense of humor. You should call Sal at MSA (x201 if I remember correctly) and work something out. I would have been happiest if it had all bolted up as advertised, but in the end Sal made it right. 918/240Z Posted September 7, 2004 Share #28 Posted September 7, 2004 Hi I'm a little late into this thread but I think the Twice pipes are supposed to be over and under not side by side that might be part of your problem.. I also wanted MSA Twice Pipes but read you had to cut a little of the rear valence..I wasnt going to do that to a virgin 71 240 so I had a muffler shop build me a system over and under with glass packs or he called them resonators..said they wouldnt blow out... Anyway I love them people always seem to know I'm on my way ..Guys on bikes look over say nice car nice sound ..around idle i rumble like a motorboat.. get on up about 2700-3500 and who needs a horn...by the way I dont have a radio in the car driving this way about 2yrs( who needs one).. Good luck Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12895-finally-my-twice-pipes-exhuast-system-is-installed-but-problems-pics-inside/?page=3#findComment-94114 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted September 7, 2004 Share #29 Posted September 7, 2004 the resonators aren't properly named. They're called EXPANSION CHAMBERS, and are designed to trap the exhaust/sound of certain frequencies to 'resonate' inside and cancel themselves out. there's nothing inside but space for the pulses to bounce. Modern mufflers are designed with suchchambers inside, and so they are bigger in size, but the older/sporty cars use them to decrease backpressure & make more power while keeping the exhaust tube size small. PrOxLaMuS© Posted September 9, 2004 Author Share #30 Posted September 9, 2004 Well..the exhuast shop tried to have the pipes go Up and Down... instead of Side by Side... but the Muffler had mounts to bolt onto for it to be upright.... and the tips are angled upward as well. So if I put the pipes Up and Down, the tips would be facing left or right... and wouldn't look right. I would try to adjust em myself now.. but the damn exhuast shop welded everything together. I LOVE the sound... but I don't like how low they sag, and it's side profile. If it was more tucked in.. it would be PERFECT Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12895-finally-my-twice-pipes-exhuast-system-is-installed-but-problems-pics-inside/?page=3#findComment-94416 Share on other sites
PrOxLaMuS© Posted September 9, 2004 Author Share #31 Posted September 9, 2004 BTW I didn't cut the valence... but I figured if I did.. then it would fit better.... but my body is soo nice the way it is won't do it Modify the part to fit the car DO NOT modify the car to fit the part Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12895-finally-my-twice-pipes-exhuast-system-is-installed-but-problems-pics-inside/?page=3#findComment-94418 Share on other sites
Zedrally Posted September 9, 2004 Share #32 Posted September 9, 2004 The twin pipes on the works rally cars didn't cut the rear valence.Perhaps, you can get them placed higher up?MOM Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12895-finally-my-twice-pipes-exhuast-system-is-installed-but-problems-pics-inside/?page=3#findComment-94421 Share on other sites

PrOxLaMuS© Posted September 23, 2004 Author Share #34 Posted September 23, 2004 alright.. well I went back down and pushed and moved and shoved my way around. The reason why it was soo close to my tires and it was sitting too low was because the IDIOTS at Midas.... Didn't tighten the bolts all the way.. and the ones they did tighten, they were at horrible angles. Everything is fixed now... still a bit low.. but no tire rubbing... no vibrating... not as much scraping... Overall.... I give the sound a 9 out of 10 (very loud, but sometimes annoying) Install ease ... 5 out of 10 (too much adjustment and bad fit no matter what) Powergains .... 7 out of 10(felt a good power gain not as much as expected) NOTE : This is the Twice Pipes on my 280Z ... the install and fit and power will be different for a 240Z without a doubt.. since the setup was designed for a 240Z not a 280z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12895-finally-my-twice-pipes-exhuast-system-is-installed-but-problems-pics-inside/?page=3#findComment-96126 Share on other sites
Datsun-Fever Posted September 23, 2004 Share #35 Posted September 23, 2004 So what do you think is the best possible exhaust kit you could get for the 280? Chino 240Z Posted September 23, 2004 Share #36 Posted September 23, 2004 . because the IDIOTS at Midas.... Well, see there was your problem! Don't you just hate having to finish someone elses work? It's good to take inventory and a closer look once in a while huh, Cool deal!
