The FELT is a formed piece from a straight piece of felt that has had two grooves cut into it. Those grooves are where the 90° bend goes to fit it into the channel. The grooves in essence then go on the "inside" of the U that gets made when you fold the felt. It gets placed on the lower portion of the rear window guide. The RUBBER gasket, which has a "felt" or "fuzzy" surface and may be part of the confusion , starts immediately above the lower felt, up to the corner of the window frame where you will note there has been a "notch" or 90° angle cut in the rubber leaving a small connecting piece on the "floor" of the gasket. Hi E: I just went and dug out the parts... and looking at them carefully - To tell you the truth - I think I got the terms right as applied to the parts for the Z. The lower portion of the rear window guide - is named "rubber"... but I'm not positive of exactly what the material is. On the one hand it seems like a very hard foam rubber, but on the other hand it feels like, or has the texture of a rubberized compressed felt... At any rate: The Nissan Parts Catalog lists them as: (see attached Page below) Item #5 - Felt-Glass Run Door 80335-E4102 Item #6 - Rubber - Glass Run Door 80336-E8700 If you order #5 above - -- What you get is 80335-N3700... and it is described as "Felt-Glass Run Door" in the Parts Catalog - but when it shows up, the new Part Number Tag says: "Guide-Front WIN". {it is the same part number for the 2+2 up to 6/75} It fits fine as I have already installed one set on one of my 72 240-Z's. #5 - would appear to be a rubber base - with Fuzzy Felt applied on top of three surfaces as you describe. The rubber base is then in contact with the metal frame... and the fuzzy felt surfaces wrap around the glass. Thus it is called "Felt-Glass Run Door". #6 - would appear to be either a very hard foam rubber it's texture does look a bit like compressed felt.. but there is no fuzzy felt bonded to it, like there is on item #5, nor is it made of pure felt. It may be that the kit I received wasn't a true blue Nissan, but one of the kits sold by one of the vendors. In any case, I distinctly remember the FELT as being plain old compressed and cut felt. It was a gray color. The rest of the weather stripping was rubber covered by a "felt" type finish, but rubber underneath.This may be a situation of where they inadvertently inverted the names. Ramses Posted May 13, 2007 Share #19 Posted May 13, 2007 I did it yesterday. No pics, sry guys. I used the Jcwhitney and it works beautifully. I took the channels out, because I had to remove a broke off bolt...doh. The whole process only took about 1.5 hours. I was really careful with my door panels. I really do not want to take them off again. Now, on the body, rubber and interior...the only thing that I have to do is to get rid of that DAMN exhaust smell. The early part of this week am hanging all of the sheet metal back on the car and adjusting it to perfection to prepare to finalze the body work and block her out. Then it all comes back off the paint the openings and the in and back sides. Then all back together for final paint!!!The end of this week I am going to get my rally clock and hopefully post some contact info for all of you lot with ecd (Electric clock disfunction!)! beandip Posted July 23, 2007 Share #22 Posted July 23, 2007 I used the JC Whitney channel 3+ years ago and it worked just fine. I may still have the part numbers if you need them. They also have the fuzzy strip that goes against the inside of the door glass for a good price and it is just the same as the OEM . I installed it with pop rivets and they cannot be seen . xray Posted September 2, 2007 Share #23 Posted September 2, 2007 Just finished this part of my restoration, thought I'd add some pics to the thread since they seemed to be missing and some folks had requested them... First is a comparison between old and new. New is JC Whitney part #184874 Rubber Window Channel Felt. Dimensions are 9/16 x 17/32 x 17/32. (pic #2) I bought 2 @ 10.99 each. Each strip leaves about a foot left over, so I don't think you can get away with one piece for both sides. It's as easy as it gets to replace this stuff. Hack the old stuff out (pic 3)--it's got only a little adhesive on there which pried off with a flat blade screwdriver. Clean the metal with some solvent. Cut the felt to length. Use the lengths of the old felt to guide you. The leading edge requires the felt to be cut shorter than the frame because several screws protrude into it where it is secured to the door. Cut the corners of one end of each piece of the new felt at 45 degree angles (pic 4), then snip off the tip to make a squared end. (pic 5) That is the end which mates up with the other strip at the back angle of the window frame near the quarter window. Smear a little weatherstrip adhesive on the frame, some on the felt, then wait for it to set (1-2 minutes or so.) (Pic 6) I start with the shorter side that goes along the rear door, but it doesn't matter. Squeeze the folded ends of the new felt together, (pic 7) slide it into the frame, starting at the back corner that you beveled, then work your way to the end that is secured within the door. Same process for the leading edge of the frame. Takes maybe 30 minutes a side, depending on how much effort it requires to remove the old stuff. When reinstalling the frame, it is possible to bolt it in place with the window NOT in the channel...line up the back edge of the window in the channel flet when bolting in your window frame!
