PrOxLaMuS© Posted August 24, 2004 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2004 SeaFoam treatment... VIDEO and instructions! Lots of smoke... Well after wondering around Zcar.com and Classiczcars.com.. alot of people have been wanting to use SeaFoam.. a chemical to help de-carbonize your engine and clean it out! But many are sceptical like I was, so I went to my local NAPA autoparts store and bought 2 bottles. I poured 1/3 of the bottle into the vacuum lines for the intake, 1/3 in my gas tank, and 1/3 into my oil or crankcase. POUR it in VERY SLOWLY!!! once in the intake manifold TRUST ME!!(NOTE : once in the crankcase, let it run for a while, then change the oil ASAP because it thins down the oil and that's bad) So I decided to show you guys a 2 part video ...an introduction, and where to pour it into the intake manifold! Also... after letting it sit for 5 minutes.. look how much smoke comes out after all that de-carbonization!SeaFoam introduction and instructions (about 10 MB) After 5 min. soak... SeaFoam and it's smoke (6 MB) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12988-seafoam-treatment-video-and-instructions-lots-of-smoke/ Share on other sites
TXblue240Z Posted August 24, 2004 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2004 Did the smoke stop after the treatment (i.e. new gas, new oil, etc)? or was it just the seafoam stuff being partially burned in the engine or what not...i guess I am just kinda skeptical that anything that produces that is a symbol of progress, but i am unfamiliar with the product... Victor Laury Posted August 24, 2004 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2004 "Seafoam" works almost as well as a blown head gasket. Anyone else see how a coolant leak wil decarbonize a piston? Bambikiller240 Posted August 24, 2004 Share #4 Posted August 24, 2004 Yes, When I had a valve job and timing chain replacement on an L24 engine many years ago, I was able to remove the carbon on the piston tops with water. Put each piston to TDC (smeared grease around the edge of the cylinder), sprayed water onto the piston and scrubbed with a stiff brush while holding a vacuum near to suck up the carbon particles / excess water. PrOxLaMuS© Posted August 24, 2004 Author Share #5 Posted August 24, 2004 Yeh the smoke stopped after about 5 minutes of driving the car a bit hard... and gunk came out with the oil when I changed it... not sure about the gas though... but haven't seen any smoke. PrOxLaMuS© Posted August 24, 2004 Author Share #6 Posted August 24, 2004 Victor Laury i am a bit confused by what you typed earlier... Are you saying that SeaFoam indeed does work, or does NOT and is like putting antifreeze in your engine? Bambikiller240 Posted August 24, 2004 Share #8 Posted August 24, 2004 Carbon isn't that difficult to remove. Seafoam run through the engine will do it, Water (or coolant) run through the engine (from a blown headgasket) will do it. Water from a spray bottle and a stiff nylon brush will do it on a disassembled engine. Some people worry about using products like Seafoam cause all the grit and crap that gets removed is floating around through your engine for a while, until you drain the oil and the engine stops burning the Seafoam. TomoHawk Posted June 4, 2006 Share #9 Posted June 4, 2006 I used some Seafoam today. It went in through the vacuum port just ahed of the brake booster vac tube, using a thin vacuum hose ( so it goes in salowly). Almost immediately, I saw the dirty gray smoke. I let about 3/4 can go through, then I shut off the engine and put on a door/windowframe weatherstrip piece. The rest of the Seafoam went into the gas tank. Then went for a drive. It smoked in the driveway (and smells bad), it smoked on the way to the freeway, and it smoked a short time on the freeway. I was wondering why some "expert" didn't chase me down to 'inform' me that my muffler was smoking; maybe they all thought my "old car" normally smoked. I kept it under 3000 RPM (60MPH) on the freeway for about 10 minutes, then up to 3300 (65 MPH). After about 20 minutes, it wasn't smoking any more.I haven't noticed anything different in the engine (yet?) It bogged a little while sucking the Seafoam in, and then smoothed out after I stopped the treatment. No increase in horsepower or acceleration. Possibly the engine needs another treatment, or its clean enough now, and the horsepower problem lies elsewhere (like low fuel pressure).fwiw Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12988-seafoam-treatment-video-and-instructions-lots-of-smoke/#findComment-169899 Share on other sites

DeesZ Posted June 4, 2006 Share #11 Posted June 4, 2006 I second that. I'd like to see them if they are still available, too. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12988-seafoam-treatment-video-and-instructions-lots-of-smoke/#findComment-169905 Share on other sites
DatsunZsRule Posted June 4, 2006 Share #12 Posted June 4, 2006 Instructions are printed right on the can of Sea Foam and listed on there website too if you can't find PrOxLaMuS© video. http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/12988-seafoam-treatment-video-and-instructions-lots-of-smoke/#findComment-169911 Share on other sites
