240znz Posted August 30, 2004 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2004 Cheak out these pics of the areas behind the seats on my 12/70 build series 1 240z. Any ideas what the brackets are for and alos what are the layout pads for (little raised bits in the metal on both sides). They all have me stumped Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13054-what-are-these-for/ Share on other sites
Mr Camouflage Posted August 30, 2004 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2004 They are for the tool compartments covers, to hide the jack and other tools that came with the car. 2ManyZs Posted August 30, 2004 Share #3 Posted August 30, 2004 The little raised tabs in the second pic are where the rubber straps hook to hold the jack in place. The straps have a rectangular "hook" on each end that slip under the end of the tabs. Bambikiller240 Posted August 30, 2004 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2004 At least "some" of the brackets are for the jack and lug wrench kit that came with the car (if tha Aussie model follows like the USA model). Also, on the verticle surface there are tool storage bins doors mounted in the USA model 240Z's Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13054-what-are-these-for/#findComment-93212 Share on other sites
240znz Posted August 30, 2004 Author Share #5 Posted August 30, 2004 Thanks....and DOH on my part. I don't have the original jack (it came with a Nissan one) and those tool compartment covers are also gone if ever there in the first place! So the 1st pick shows two raised brackets. What fits on those? Has anyone got a pic of what these tool lids look like when attached? 240znz Posted August 30, 2004 Author Share #6 Posted August 30, 2004 And also, please tell me that Datsun used white silicon as a seam sealer in 1970. I fear that the PO has smeared the areas effected by cancer...eek Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13054-what-are-these-for/#findComment-93214 Share on other sites
Bambikiller240 Posted August 30, 2004 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2004 I think our member "Kats" has pictures of the jack and tools. Either in his gallery or on his website.Someone else had pics of the doors, but I don't remember who.As for seam sealer, my Z's 71-73 had a white caulking applied to seams, but it was not silicone. I don't know how to describe it other than it was of a hard texture, not soft like silicone. EScanlon Posted August 30, 2004 Share #8 Posted August 30, 2004 The indents are for placement of the various pieces in the OEM tool kit. You have a space for the Lug Wrench, the Jack, the Chocks and the Tool Kit bag. Over these a pair of plastic "doors" would attach to the screw hole with rubber you can see at the top of your picture.Sometime later, when the production completely used up the Series I bodies, the tool compartments migrated to the deck area.2¢Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13054-what-are-these-for/#findComment-93218 Share on other sites
