My 73 has the original interior including carpets and mats. I've never seen those clips before even in all my salvage yard expeditions. Seems like an interesting item though. I will look in all my service manuals, maybe they show them.

Maybe 26th-Z can chime in on this or Carl Beck?

Chris

I have the tangs on the floor that go through the tail end of the front carpets, and the carpet DOES loop through there. However, the carpets are held in place by the snap grommets at the top of the carpet which are screwed into the firewall.

I've never seen these clips either. That's why I asked what the original position was that they were found in.

This is the way my 240Z is also.

I don't recognize those clips either. They almost look like some sort of spring clip for the lock mechanisms, except that it's a small groove.

What was their "original position"? I'd be interested to know.

I have these in my '75 280z and they're original to the car!

In 59GHIA's photo you'll notice that one "finger" is flat and the other is curved up. The curved finger is slid between the L shaped tab (that is attached to the floor pan) and the carpet, with the curve up like a bridge or hump and the lip of the straight edge facing up. The photo shows the orientation correctly. I believe this design is intended to hold down the carpet all around the underside of the clip while taking away some of the stress from the carpet hole and the L shaped tab. So, the curved "finger" would be positioned to the rear of the car.

Hope that helps!

Here are a couple of pics of clips mentioned above..

GunnerRob described perfectly

First is early 240 velcro patches

Next is actual installed in early 260, but is same at least back to Vin 40,000.

Intersting not in Micro fish....
