TomoHawk Posted September 28, 2004 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2004 Does anybody have a pattern to make a boot for the handbrake lever? I have leather pieces big enough for a shifter boot & brake boot, so I'd like to make some from leather. The brake boot I had is long gone. I suppose I could have taken a pattern from that. thx. speedyblue Posted September 29, 2004 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2004 I made a shifter boot but carefully cutting up the old one and using it as a template, so I was going to suggest that, but since you don't have one :stupid: I was thinking of making a matching handbrake boot, but never got around to it. The clips that hold it in place threw me off a bit. If I ever do make one, I'll let you know, but first I have to fit a G-nose, wire up electric mirrors, install new springs and shocks, try and make new guage faces etc etc.... It never ends. TomoHawk Posted September 29, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted September 29, 2004 The hardest part of the shifter boot is figuringout how to attach it to the floor, or carpeting. Daniel Posted September 29, 2004 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2004 Tomo perhaps a junk yard would have one as a pattern. I took mine to an upholstery shop. Had it made of soft leather and made the stiching match factory(shifter cover). It cost only $20.00 The emer brake cover was $15.00 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13449-pattern-for-handbrake-boot/#findComment-96777 Share on other sites
hls30.com Posted September 29, 2004 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2004 Tomohawk, I'll send you a used brake boot, if you will send me a set patterns of the shifter boot and brake boot-whenever you get them. Maybe they would be a good post for the archives. PM me your address, and it will go out tomorrow. With that, I 'm in no rush for the paterns, My car is still under the knife (plasma cutter) on the rotisserie, waiting for more metal from Charley Osborne! TomoHawk Posted September 29, 2004 Author Share #6 Posted September 29, 2004 thanks Will,Keep in mind I have an automatic transmission and no center console, so I'm winging this. I'll need to make a plate with hooks (or something) to mount to the floor or the carpet and attach the shifter boot to the plate and the shifter. I'll make sure you get credit for doing your part (on my ferrari web page- timeline)thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13449-pattern-for-handbrake-boot/#findComment-96803 Share on other sites

TomoHawk Posted October 2, 2004 Author Share #8 Posted October 2, 2004 I just finished my auto trans shifter boot. Thanks, Mom. (she had to do the 'mom' thing- sewing isn't manly ) the leather is from the Salvation Army store, pattern using careful measurements, and the two halves were STAPLED together? Here's some pics attached, and you will see the two bracket things I made from bent box tube I got from an old chair. I will scan the pattern for the two halves Monday. thx for the 'collaboration.' Brandy Posted October 8, 2004 Share #9 Posted October 8, 2004 To attach the boot, try some patches of velcro (if carpeting covers the well). Fabric stores carry velcro 'buttons'. TomoHawk Posted October 8, 2004 Author Share #10 Posted October 8, 2004 I think I would go with the screw-in snaps. The original ones might still be in there. I will have to go look. I'm not to sure about using velcro for things that move often. Brandy Posted October 8, 2004 Share #11 Posted October 8, 2004 Makes sense (but then again, I had planned to actually sew the boot in place for my set up once I replace the center console, but I like to do things the lazy way) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13449-pattern-for-handbrake-boot/#findComment-97690 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted October 8, 2004 Author Share #12 Posted October 8, 2004 I think when I finish everything else, I'll take the center console out completely, and cutout & cover the hole where the ashtray was. That way I can put a fire extinguisher between the seats. I only need a place to mount the change holder- no need for an ashtray. the armrest is only for storage of repair tools right now.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13449-pattern-for-handbrake-boot/#findComment-97697 Share on other sites
