jmark Posted September 30, 2004 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2004 Looked at three samples of the Nissan 611 paint code all the same formulas but in 3 different paint brands Dupont, Diamont (BASF) & Spies. The Diamont was far and away the best. That's what I went with. :paranoid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/ Share on other sites
jmark Posted October 1, 2004 Author Share #2 Posted October 1, 2004 No one used BASF Diamont paint before? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97079 Share on other sites
ROOPZ Posted October 1, 2004 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2004 I have. We use it at work and I also painted my Z with it. (Not with paint from work!) It is as good as Chromabase in my opinion. The base is a little different. It "builds" more than Chromabase. I always considered chromabase more of an ink! But, they are both good and both expensive!! I wanted to use Valspar on the Z but the place could not mix the correct color so I decided to go with Diamont. Valspar is more like chromabase but is about half the price and it seems to hold up just as well. Definitely sprays and buffs just as nice if not nicer. Best of luck!Aaron Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97101 Share on other sites
Bubbleguinea Posted October 1, 2004 Share #4 Posted October 1, 2004 whats the difference between that and PPG? are they just brands? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97111 Share on other sites
Zrush Posted October 1, 2004 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2004 I would only use PPG paint on my cars. My 77 has a 3 stage Cinamon Candy Apple Red. Of couse it all comes down to one's opinion and how much you want to pay. In the car show circles, at least around here in Florida, PPG is #1. (It also takes a knowledgable body shop to shoot the paint) Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97118 Share on other sites
jmark Posted October 3, 2004 Author Share #6 Posted October 3, 2004 RoopZ,I take it that Diamont is a high end paint. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97214 Share on other sites
ROOPZ Posted October 3, 2004 Share #7 Posted October 3, 2004 Yes, I suppose I would consider Diamont a high end paint. But it isnt my first choice either. I dont think a person would go wrong by using it. jmark Posted October 4, 2004 Author Share #8 Posted October 4, 2004 RoopZ,Your first choice would be? I suspect most modern paints will do fine if the prep is good and the painter know what he is doing. The Diamont just seemed to have the best color match of the three we had to chose from. The paint was mixed by the same guy with the same formula. He sells all three brands so he really doesn't care which I picked. ROOPZ Posted October 4, 2004 Share #9 Posted October 4, 2004 Personally, I would choose Diamont over Chromabase any day of the week. I guess my first choice would be Valspar if its available but like I said, the guy could not mix my color for some reason and I wanted it as close as I could get so I went with Diamont. Hope this helps. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97259 Share on other sites
jmark Posted October 4, 2004 Author Share #10 Posted October 4, 2004 ROOPZ,It is my understanding that Chromabase is a Dupont product. Dupont also owns Spies-Hecker. Diamont is a BASF product. Am I correct? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13475-anyone-used-basf-diamont-paint/#findComment-97287 Share on other sites

jmark Posted October 4, 2004 Author Share #12 Posted October 4, 2004 RoopZ,Thanks for your help. Those were my 3 options. The Diamont looked the best of the 3 mixed and sprayed samples.
