Anyone see any issues with the below that I have missed?

My engine is soon to be out of the car and will be for some time. I'm going to store it on a dolly of some kind while the body is finished.

I don't want the engine to get surface rust in the bores, so would it OK to leave the oil in it and hook up the starter motor now again and turn it over (without the spark pulgs in) to get oil pressure up.

Will this lube cam, main bearings and generally keep everything in check????

I would put oil down the bores and over the cam and everything, and turn it over by hand with a socket on the front crank pulley. repeat once every couple of months or so ( both oiling and turning over).

You could do it with the starter motor but I don't think it is necessary. And you will have to strap the engine down pretty well to stop it flipping over with the torque reaction. I would say it is more important to add oil to the bore/cam surfaces regularly, than to spin it over on the starter when the engine is dry of oil. The engine from my 1972 z has been stored this way since 1990 and the cam and bores are still perfect.

The bottom end will stay rust free just as long as you keep the sump on it, the bearings will retain enough oil to keep it happy as long as you are only turning it over by hand.

Hope it helps

You can also use a product called "Seafoam". They also have an aerosol version (called "Deep Creep") that you can inject into the spark plug holes...other internal parts for long term storage. url for website is: www.seafoamsales.com
