Mr Camouflage Posted October 13, 2004 Share #2 Posted October 13, 2004 Is your car missing the torsion rod spring things? they do a pretty good job of holding the bonnet open, then theres the rod thingy ontop of the Rad support panel the locks into the bonet to stop it from closing.Does your car not have these parts?theres the bonet thingo in this pic:http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=169&sort=1&cat=all&page=55 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13603-gas-struts-stays-to-hold-bonnet-up/#findComment-98068 Share on other sites

Go240Zags Posted October 13, 2004 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2004 Is there a way to adjust the torsion bars? The hood on my '72 parts car used to stay up on its own, while my '71 car's hood will not stay up without the prop in place. Then I forget it's there and try and close the hood without putting it down (I've a bad case of Sometimers disease I guess). Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't. How do you increase the torsion to hold up the hood? Mr Camouflage Posted October 13, 2004 Share #7 Posted October 13, 2004 Try swapping the bars over from the parts car. It sounds like they are stronger. Mine is a 72 and the hood stays open without need ing the bonet stay. (untill a large gust of wind comes along Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/13603-gas-struts-stays-to-hold-bonnet-up/#findComment-98114 Share on other sites
