Process of elimination - Ignition. Help!

Recommended Posts

Okay, thought I had my cross-fire problems sorted when I got my new Module. But no :stupid: (at least I have a spare now)

Bosch do not have a listing for the 280zx (distributor that I'm using), but they do for the 280C which is the same, i think. Anyway What they've given me is a Bosch GT40R coil. Which states on the side "use gt40 coils to replace all standard coils fitted with ballast resistors" BUT the bosch book had it listed for use with the L28. And as the L28 was only EFI, no ballast resistor.

So what do I do here? I can't find any answers anywhere. :(

The only diffence i found was if the side of the coil listed if it was to be used with the ballast unit , if that was so it was suppose to lower it output to I think 6 instead of 12 like you were using it without a ballast. Thats what I read on the side but i have the nissan coil number somewhere if you want it?

ok its a 12 volt unit and the part number is

#22433-h7500 , i bought a custom harness from a guy for my 72 which i converted to electronic and i have these great info sheets I can try and can for you tomarrow which list everything from start to finish on how to convert using the ic ignition module

Yeah, that'd be great. I'll use that to get a correct replacement. Bollocks

Useless Rant: Sometimes I wonder at these part stores whether you have to actually go and get the part number, get the part off the shelf out the back, check that it's the same, give to customer. Hell, they only need to tell me how to use the till and i'll do it all myself. End of ranting. (Till I ring em tomorrow)

I've had it working with the tach for about a year. But something has givin up in the last week or so, cross-firing and generally crap performance. Module is new, wires are new, plugs are new sooo yeah coil it is.

Thanks for the offer, I'm sure they would help. Thanks for the quick reply!

Go to Global auto spares and ask them about a coil. Autobarn, supercheap etc don't have a clue about non-points coils unless you are after an MSD Blaster coil or something like that. Then they overcharge heaps. (one guy got upset when I laughed at the price he gave me)

I payed about $50 for a 12v coil to suit electric ignition. Never had a problem with it.

Or Chepa auto spares had decent prices on the Blaster coil if you want more *#*.

Walk into an auto elec. Tell them you think your coil is stuffed and that if they'll let you try putting one of their coils in your car and it works, you'll buy the coil off them. You might pay a little more than normal, but you won't waste money if it isn't the coil!!
