TXblue240Z Posted December 10, 2004 Share #2 Posted December 10, 2004 pollution controls? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104763 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted December 10, 2004 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2004 I'm getting about 20 average, ranging from 20 - 23 so far. No emmissions stuff (L28 with e.f.i "doesn't need emmissions stuff"). I took off the EGR last summer and I'm going to fix up what's left to look nicer and work better.FWIW Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104765 Share on other sites

Chino 240Z Posted December 10, 2004 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2004 I would guess with your motor build, SUs with SMs, sounds like the ball park-17 to 22. But then again, does your right foot have a mind of it's own and often enjoy the pedal to the metal? drive it like you stole it? or rather like an old lady? :nervous: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104769 Share on other sites
Zrush Posted December 10, 2004 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2004 The 77 gets gallons per mile rather than miles per gallon . I never really thought of the Z car as a gas saver, so to speak, even back in the 70's. Now, I'm not comparing the car to 70's V-8's but how did the Z match up to other vehicles of simular (I know, I know, there's none to us) class back then? Triumphs, TVR's, The pitiful Mustang II, etc. Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104772 Share on other sites
Chino 240Z Posted December 10, 2004 Share #7 Posted December 10, 2004 Exactly, how can you even think about mileage when you have such a fun car to drive as a Z. On the gas, going through the gears, off the gas, back-fire, back-fire, rumble rumble, then on the gas again. Hmm, sounds like music with a repeating chorus to me! And there is no gas mileage in that song... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104774 Share on other sites
EricB Posted December 10, 2004 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2004 I rebuilt an 81 F54 (new rings & bearings) and matched that up with an early E88 head with the bigger N42 valves, am using triple Mikuni 44 PHH carbs, and am getting almost 25MPG on the freeway - not much less around town.-e Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14278-miles-per-gallon/#findComment-104775 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted December 10, 2004 Share #9 Posted December 10, 2004 That's why I have a fuel-efficient Ford Escort that gets 30+ MPG for those LONG trips where the fuel depots are 100 miles apart!
