I've been gathering alot of info from various places on the net... and after many posts and collecting of feedback, I've decided on a carb swap for my 77 280Z... I feel that I will be much happier in the end. I'm going for an N42 Head.... L24 intake and linkage, and SU's... This is the setup I hope to accomplish. I know there will be a few things I'll have to rearrange and configure. I am seeking a completel list of what I will need, if anyone might know of where I can find a comprehensive one, please let me know :)

Does Georgia have anything like California's biennial emissions testing program? I'm just wondering how carbs on a 77 would work out in that respect if your state has such a program. That plus considering the modifications to the wiring, carb linkage, fuel delivery, different fuel pump, etc, you might be just trading one set of problems for another.

I respect the idea but since you already have F.I I think you should stick with it. There are certain year(s) of E.F.I on 280z's and ZX's that are better set up's than others and you can get your Z going just as well as on carbs if not better with F.I.

There will be a whole heap of wiring you will need to remove from your loom and it could get very confusing very quickly.

Just my opinion.

I've gotten mixed reviews from everyone, not only here but also on hybridZ... I'm confused as what to do.... I need guidence. I've had a few people tell me it was the greatest thing they could have ever done to their 280s... and others say don't do it...

Oh and GA does an emissions team, but the focus of it is in and around Atlanta. I think California is the only state where it is strictly enforced.

A good working EFI system is reliable and performs very well. I'd stick with it. The SU's are nice if you like to tinker. But, pulling out an EFI system on a daily driver is probably a wrong move. Invest into some new jets, fuel-lines, and electrical components for the EFI system. You'll have a very reliable car. Be sure to get the high-pressure hoses designed for transporting fuel.

Son, I don't know anything of the towns in Ga. and I dont know where this shop is in relation to where you live ,but here is the name of a Shop that has been spoken vary highly of on the list.. Eddie Radatz is the owner ERadatz Motorsports in Marietta Ga. 770 926 6621 He is supposed to be the Z guru in the area . You might just have a Z specialest have a look . Before you jump into this. Gary Keep us informed .

Heck, South Carolina gave up on inspections! Catalytic Convertors?!? What are those?

BTW, give the EFI a fair shot before you get into syncing and adjusting carbs.

Since everyone else is jumping in...

Remember that the SU carbs for a 240Z have a MANUAL choke mechanism. Switching from EFI to the SUs is like steping back in time.

If you intend just to race the car, then it MIGHT be worth the trouble, but for a daily driver... unless you really LIKE all the funky operation that goes with warming up the engine to get it to the one temperature where the carbs actually work correctly, I suspect you will be dissapointed.
