sblake01 Posted January 20, 2005 Share #13 Posted January 20, 2005 I guess you could install the appropriate speedo gear but I never worried about it on mine. Mine seems to be off by more than that maybe 8-10% but I just make the mental adjustment. TomoHawk Posted January 20, 2005 Share #14 Posted January 20, 2005 I've been using this onehttp://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.aspThanks Nate, good one. The tabular data & graphics were cool. panchovisa Posted January 20, 2005 Share #16 Posted January 20, 2005 Don't want to hijack this thread, but can anybody tell me the diameter of the two stock size tires (175R14 and 195R14)? Doc's 280 Posted January 20, 2005 Share #17 Posted January 20, 2005 Tomohawk, PonchovisaYou can calculate the overall tire diameter in inches using the following formula:(section width X aspect ratio X 2)/25.4 + wheel diameter(in inches)= diameterFor example: 195/70R14 would be:(195 X .7(or 70%)X 2(both sides of tire))/25.4(mm per inch) + 14 = 24.748"You can use this formula to compare any wheel/tire combination you are considering. (Width, offset and backspacing also need to be considered.)Hope this helps,Doc. NZeder Posted January 20, 2005 Share #18 Posted January 20, 2005 I found this while looking for vintage tires for a matehttp://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/productPage.php?productID=713&categoryFilename=radial.phpThis states that a 175TR14 (not quite a 175R14 but might be the same aspect ratio) is 634 in dia and 172 wide. So using "Doc's 280" formula and working backwards you get (working in mm so changed formula a little)(section width X aspect ratio X 2) + wheel diameter(in inches)x25.4 = diameter((diameter - wheel diametre (in inches)x25.4)/2)/section width = aspect ratio((634-14x25.4)/2/175 = 0.795so the 175TR14 is equal to a 175/80/14 which from what I have read in other forums is correct. I believe the reason Nissan change from the 175R14 to the 195/70/14 as both have the same rolling dia of approx 630 or 24.8 inchesHope this helps Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/14715-tire-size/?page=2#findComment-109497 Share on other sites
