Stoopid question

Ok guys here it is. I was talking to a old guy at a BSA. meeting and he looks the car over a little and asked if it ran decent. So i started her up and hes impressed. Accept it idles kinda rough not to bad just a little bit. It has done this since i got it.

He asked when was the last time i checked the carb oil? Tryed looking it up in my chiltons but cant find it . The dog ate my book!

Anyways I was wondering if there is suposed to be oil in them and what kind?

The cards are round tops. I think from a 72.

I know i should know this. And i know i will get slammed for not .

Oil, yes. Type 10-20 wt or use ATF. Fill to line on dampner rod (serated black plastic on top of SUs, unscrew,check oil level, add as needed). Too much isn't a crisis as it will overflow and be ingested.

Go look at them. The black plastic part on the top unscrews has the dip-stick attached to it. This is where the oil is and how you check it's level. People use all kinds of oil in there so you'd best wait on more knowledgable people to answer that question (I have hears of ATF being used though).

Good idea to add the intended oil, but it isn't going to make your car idle any better.

Carb OIL???

I thought somebody was going to say he's pulling as fast-one on you, like, "You only put GAS in the carb!!" You know- like muffler bearings...

I would assume you only need oil ON the carb to lube the bearing pins. What's the oil resevoir for?

You can still check the usual stuff like points, rotor, plugs, timing & mixture, any of which would make it run funny. You know- tune-up.

plain ol' 10W30 is the best that i have found.

FSM calls for straight 20W. You can get "Fork Oil" like for motorcycle forks that works well also.
