260z front bumper - can it be recessed?

Recommended Posts

I have a good condition 260z small (early) front bumper but the 2 side receiver rubbers are toast. I wanted to recess the bumper until the sides approach the body but don't touch. Has anyone shortened the gas mounting cylinders (about 2 inches) and done away with the rubber receiver pieces?

It looks like the center rubber (flap) will fit right between the headlamp bezels. I believe the rest of the bumper (from the bezel edge to the end of the bumpers) will still clear the body. I think I could modify the little rubber supports that hide in between the bumper for outside support.

Has anyone done this modification to the 260 small front bumper :ermm: ?

:dead: You can recess the bumper. But I did it another way. Took off the bumper shocks and replaced them with a hand made bracket made from 1/8" strap metal I got at Home Depot. I had to drill hole to mount it and had to do a visual on where I wanted to bend the bar. I placed the bumper where I wanted it to fit. Then bent the bar to work. It will place the bumper real close to the body if you want it to. Good Luck, Rich. :D
