Unless someone was making a "rice-machine" Z, I don't think there would be any reason to. Don't get me wrong, it looks great sometimes, but I just don't think the Z would look good with it's doors up in the air. Plus, its posible, especially because if the size of the doors relative to the total area of the car, that it would be very difficult to get the physics right to make it work.

Well, I must confess that this set up was a serious option on our 77. The company that was going to do the deal was called "Decca Doors". Decca would have to fabricate a piston type hinge. The hinge was big, bulky and ugly. The weight for it alone was 20 or 30 plus pounds, add the weight of the door to that and the metal would eventually fatigue where the hinge was installed. Our body guy strongly argued against doing this to the car. Now all this was about 4 years ago, things have changed and these doors are more popular so maybe an early Z could handle it.
