I have a donor 280z that I recieved for free, and I would like to transfer the fuel inj. system to my L28 240. The thing is that it has sat for 8 years. I just need to know what all to pull from the 280 and what to clean it with. I'd assume carb cleaner in the AFM and fuel rails. Can you clean the injectors? Also, what exactly do I need to pull from the 280? What I hope to end up with in the near future is a 240z turbo.

Thanks, Brian S.

sccabrian, that's a pretty big request. I somehow doubt that anyone is going to reply to this type of question as the answer would qqqqqqqquit lengthy. I would recommend spending some time doing some research on the subject. It's all been done before with numerous write-ups on it. Tip #1 -look through the archives here and @Hybridz. I wouldn't suggest asking the same question at Hybridz either as you will likely get the same responce. There are just too many unknowns about your car and the donor car to even begin answering your question. Sorry to be the one to poop your bubble, but you gotta do some homework on your own first. It sounds as though you've never pulled an engine or worked on engine systems before. You have to learn to walk before you can run. It's all about the details...and of course time and money! Good luck

Actually, I've done a few swaps before, but it's always been with carbs. This is my first attempt at fuel injection, and I think I have the concept of the way it works down pretty good. I did try searching, but I couldn't find much without knowing exactly what I was looking for. I just need a point in the right direction. Maybe there's a book on this sort of thing. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the 240 has an L28 in it already. haha, I'm sure that would have helped. Thanks for the reference to Hybridz, you can always use more references!

I haven't played with the standard L28E setup aside from using the intake manifold in my conversion, but here goes:

Injectors: get them professionally flowed and cleaned, they'll be gummed up to hell.

Fuel rail: should be fine as it stands

AFM: unsure what type the L28E is, if its hot-wire you get a cotton-bud thingo and some metho and GENTLY wipe the crap from it.

Aside from that you will need to look at suppling EFI fuel pressure to the rail. For a 240Z this can be a hassle as there is limited room between the fuel tank and the diff. I managed to squeeze in a 1.5L surge tank, carter 110gph lift pump, and a bosch 044 EFI fuel pump somehow but it was tight. Alternatively you could go for an in-tank EFI pump and get the tank modified to suit.

Then its just a fairly simple matter of connecting the fuel bits: EFI supply to fuel rail, fuel rail to reg, reg to return line.

and then doing the wiring. Check http://carfiche.com/fiche/s130 for the wiring diagram of the S130 if you get stuck. (http://carfiche.com/fiche/s130/?2:h:1 specifically).

Good luck,

Dave

SCCABrian:

Gets a little old hearing the "do your own search" stuff, doesn't it? Truth is that it is out there, but unfortunately it's buried like a needle in a haystack and you have to spend ungodly hours sifting through mostly-worthless posts just to get the one statement that helps you---makes you wish people wrote up more tech-type articles and submitted them to an archive....

I found a link that may help you. www.atlanticz.ca is the home for the Eastern Canada Z Club. If you go under "tech tips" and look in the left-hand side you should see a link to a .PDF called "The EFI Bible" which deals with 280Z EFI. There is also an "EFI Overview" link which may be of some benefit as well. It should provide you with a good background, and better foundation for what should stay and what should go...

I printed it out and slept with it under my pillow, but not much has seeped in yet-- LOL

Good luck,

Steve
