Hey everybody,

for those of ya'll that haven't noticed - every 2 or 3 months I disappear for about 2 or 3 months. Here's a peak at what the Coast Guard Cutter I'm stationed on has been up to. Please check it out!

go to

http://www.d7publicaffairs.com/

then on the right hand side of the page click on Coast Guard Siezes 4000 pounds of cocaine.

~that's right, somebody just lost a lot of money!

I've still got a little while before I get back stateside... but then I'll be at a nice cushy land job and have plenty of time to work on the Z!

And all this time we thought you took the Z around the block for a "quick" lap, got caught in a Z shaped tear in the time/space continum and had to get up to speed to get out of the Nexus...and to think, you were just pick up sh!t!

Seriously, Thanks for keeping the junkies from having to steal our property to support their habbits!

Well actually they'll just have to steal more to make up for the big jump in prices due to this loss! LOL CGZ, is the job as exciting as it looks? Or is it 99% mundane crap and 1% drug busting etc?

michael

Thank you very much for the Mundane crap you guys do, like saving lives. When the sea turns deadly, The Coast Guard throws themselves into harm's way to save your life. Nothing better than their mundane crap, when they pluck you out of the sea or off a burning boat.

LOL Vic I was simply asking what percent of his job is action and how much is crap that he has to put up with to be able to do that percentage that is exciting. Not sure what you thought I was implying. I've done my share of working for the government/military indirectly at least and know how putting up with a lot of crap or nothing is worth it for the interesting parts.

michael,

It definetlly has it's down time... and nothing is ever consistent. On our last patrol we had 7 major busts in 8 weeks... nearly $1 billion in street value. That's a lot of smack! This time has been just 1 so far in 6 weeks. When I'm not participating in the busts or SAR cases my normal job is an electronic's technician, more specifically I an electronics warfare tech. But the active time makes up for the mundane and trivial crap that a typical government employee has to deal with. The best part about the CG vs. the other branches of the military is that we don't just train to do a job that we may never do, we do our jobs all day every day. It's a good time and I've been in for 8 years now... and hey it pays for the Z!

A percentage hard to guess 'cause it's different everyday... I'd say most patrols are about 10% and our last patrol was closer to 90%!!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, it's really nice to hear that the job is appreciated.
