mriz Posted June 12, 2005 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2005 The shop wants about $168.00 to check and recharge my Z32 ( 280 is cool as ever) system which cools to about 75 degrees. Sounds like alot to me, in autozone I saw those cans for $14.00 which you can recharge yourself but sounds too easy of a fix or too good to be true. Add ac to the list of things "I know nothing about". Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/16239-ac-recharge/ Share on other sites
DatsunZGuy Posted June 12, 2005 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2005 I assume you are still running R12 in your AC system.Freeze 12 is worth a lookhttp://autorefrigerants.com/co00030.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/16239-ac-recharge/#findComment-127221 Share on other sites
mriz Posted June 12, 2005 Author Share #3 Posted June 12, 2005 The Z32 runs R-134 . I'm just at a loss with the 2 extremes of $168 vs $14 to fix the problem. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/16239-ac-recharge/#findComment-127224 Share on other sites
DatsunZGuy Posted June 12, 2005 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2005 I had an ’86 Mazda B2200 truck with a R12 system, which was pretty much empty. I bought one of those R12 to R134a conversion kits at my local Kragen and charged it myself. After a year it was still blowing cold. There’s nothing wrong with the DIY kit as long as you don’t overcharge your system. Ricklandia Posted June 12, 2005 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2005 Too much IMHO. My local shop (good but pricey) only charges $9.99 for a leak check. If it's got some R-134a in the system, ask em how much for a leak test before you agree to anything.
