No Z, but I took out a Civic with my 89 Camry wagon years ago on the freeway. He rolled up to me and started accelerating and decelerating, back and forth, challenging me. I just floored it and left him behind. 2000cc vs. 1500cc what was he thinking?

Whats with the obsession with L24 dude? There is a very good reason why the vast majority of people interested in performance upgrade to the L28. There is almost no downside to them. :stupid: If you can't afford to or don't want to, then don't expect your car to be fast.:stupid: LOL

I agree that all "Z" Owners want to do their "bench racing" on this thread. But remember "When The Green Flag Drops, The Bull $^!# Stops". Anyone who thinks you can't get power out of a L24 is "Z neophyte"LOL

There is power to be had out of an L24 it all really depends on how you want to put it to the test and or ground. The Z was never ever a drag racer at all, but in the light of numerous autox victories, I say the L24 and so on down the line, are powerful in they're own right.

I'm waiting for some ricer to try to get me to race. Since I don't "race," I'd just let the person (could be a girl, you know!) rev or whatever until the engine chokes. Then they can race to the next (red) light as fast as they want- could be a cruiser waiting down the street. I'll be busy cruising & looking cool.

I hear you, just rev that engine so they think your in. Put your car in reverse and slam it when the light turns green. They will never know what happened. Just make sure it isn't a busy street and noone is behind you. Just kidding. I don't think I would ever do that.

A funny story. . . I was with my brother in his supercharged 5.0 Mustang and an SUV came to our left while we waited at the light. A few teenagers that wanted to have some fun. The light turned green, they floor it and take off. My brother eases into it and at about 10mph slams on it. Both rear wheels lost traction and the engine screamed. Sure the SUV "won" but the guy in the lane to our right in his late model Corrola looked like he crapped his pants by the expression on his face.

A damn fool came up beside me at the lights, and gave me "THE NOD". I nodded back to him.The lights turned green. I reckon his face did too when I floored the accelerator. Bloke was stupid thinking he could beat my Zed off the lights with his push bike !!!!!!!!!!!LOL

I was driving a few years back, same night my numbers matching block spun a rod bearing, and I was driving away from a 4th of July fireworks show. My Z's idle was low and she felt like she wanted to die, so I was feathering the throttle to keep her running. My exhaust is just straight pipe from the exhaust manifold out to a melted glasspack, so she can be pretty loud when the revs get up. A 95+ Mustang GT comes up next to me, with 5 people in it, and the driver wanted to impress the girls in the car with him. He saw me, noticed that I was feathering the throttle, and though I wanted to race. I knew it was a bad idea, so I just kept looking forward, and kept the engine running. The light turned green, he jumped on the gas, and took off in a roar of american muscle. What he didn't notice is that there were TONS of police everywhere, and actually a few cruisers just a little down the street than ran perpendicular to the street we were on. The cruisers noticed his antics, and took off after him. He was issued a pretty hefty fine, and his friends in the car behind him even had the nerve to follow me and let me know that I was lucky that I wasn't ticketed too.

Not my fault I keep my eyes open.

i have some good kill stories ...every thursday night theres the local street racing scene that always hangs out well for some starnge reason in 05 my car was the only one most people recognized as a monster z my car club legend z would go out and i was the only person that never lost out of my club heres my list of cars ive beat then ill list what i have done

55 bel air this guy works at a race shop beat him every week for 3 months this guy got more sorry every week the last race was 6 cars..

98 camaro suposedly 14 second car he lost by 3 cars

01 cobra he lost as soon as i went into third by 2 cars

focus svt 8 cars i bet it wasnt svt

76 chevelle on the freeway i lost him in my rear view mirror then i saw him at the races and he got mad at me and said it wasnt fast well he lost when he challenged me again

2 honda preludes vtec 5 cars behind me

lancer the good ones but this was in a mountain race so that doesnt really count as much

non turbo 97 supra on the highway he lost by two cars he couldnt catch up for 3 miles

02 mustang and a 01 camaro goin at it on the highway i entered the race and i won the mustang but me and the camaro went at it for about 4 miles head to head but i lost when it started to drizzle in wich water is my z's worst enemy even with my rain tires ....then i got pulled over and had my liscence suspended for a year ...........so now i only race it on track

I usually only "tussle" with cars on the freeway since thats where im at 95% of the time on my 135 mile round trip to work...usually what happens is a group of guys in a civic/accord/240sx/corolla/celica/integra etc etc whiz by or pull up along side me revving thier engines...probably because i snaked by them thru traffic or something and took offence...my Z is anything but "quiet", with the 1 5/8" nissan motorsports header 2.5 inch exhaust and magnaflow muffler..the kids think im challenging them by winding thru traffic past them i guess..(i really am just rushing home) anyways, I have a "defect" in my brain or something and cant back down from a challenge, so, I drop it to third, hit the hammer and run it thru 4th (traffic allowing) glance up at the mirror to see them struggling a block behind me..or exiting the freeway quickly...LOL once and a while you get a cool guy catching up to you and giving the thumbs up sign...

the only car that gave me a legitimate run for my money was 2 guys in a sweet looking yellow Subaru WRX STi the other night about 11pm on the 60E between the 215 and redlands blvd...(yea about a umm 8-10 stretch of highway) basically we were pretty evenly matched, and did rolling runs several times...we'd get up along side each other stomp on the pedal, I would get the jump on him, for about 2 car lengths by then his turbo was in full swing and I couldnt pull him anymore..then around 110-120mph id have to drop off the gas and he would fly by...same deal if he jumped on the gas

1st, I couldnt pull him .. but he couldnt pull away either...
