They look like 4 screw round tops from an early 240. But I doubt they have never been used. Look at the side of the piston. Looks like the usual accumulation from gasoline.

Also, I'm a little confused by the banjo fitting. I haven't seen that on SUs before, especially since I already see the rubber fuel inlet connected as well as the breather. On mine there are only 2, not 3 connections.

Hard to tell from looking but I can say they are 38mm from the 2 bolt mount. If they are Hitachis (metric) they came on either SSS 1600 JDM 510s or 1600 roadsters. If they are 1 1/2" SUs they could have come off anything. They look very Hitachiiiiii.....

I commented to your photo. It's a rear carb off a 1969 1600 roadster. The bowls are reversed from the 510 models, the 411 SSS and the 68 roadster did not have the recirculation valve. the 1970 roadster had a nipple, not a banjo for the bowl vent.

You can tell the bore size from the mounting flange. 1.75" (46mm) SU's have 4 mounting holes in the square pattern like the Z's - called HS6 type. HS4's are 1.5" (38mm) and have 2 mounting holes at 45 degrees like the one shown. HS2's are 1.25" I think (32mm?) and also have 2 mounting holes but in a vertical pattern not 45 degrees like these. I don't know of any HS2 size hitachi's used for Datsuns - anyone?

Here's a little page I started making but kinda gave up 1/4 way through. It's got some SU carb pics (snagged from ebay) that may be useful.

Hi Bruce

thanks for your input. I posted another picture of the pair of them in this forum and they look very similar to an HS4

Thanks

Dan
