240ZX Posted August 22, 2005 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2005 If you've never gone to the Monterey Historical Races, you are certainly missing a very cool event!!! Eric, Jon, Dave, and myself drove up to Laguna Seca this last friday. Once we got to Paso Robles we went up G14, as the other guys said they had never driven it. I think they really enjoyed the curves and next to zero traffic....what a hoot! That evening we hung out in the city of Monterey and checked out the auctions....tons of cars to drool over! Some of my favorites were the F40, Shelby GT350, and of course the Cobras. Saturday we met-up at the Z Car Corral in the infield. As usual, we had fog up until about noon time, but that Monterey for you! Besides all the outragous race cars running around the track, you could spend time walking through the pits and the exhibits. One pretty cool deal went down....Sir Sterlin Moss drove the Mercedes he and Jenkins won the Mila Millia (spelling?) in for the last time. Jay Leno was his passenger...lucky bastard! It was a great time.....all the beautiful sounds of those 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 cylinder engines screaming around the track! I found myself just laughing with joy as I watched! All I will say is, if you love cars, Monterey Historical Races are a must do event. This was my first year and will likely be the first of many now! The drive home was pretty fun as well. I drove by myself down the coast highway and besides getting around the slow cars and RVs, which didn't account to too many, I completely enjoyed all the curves and sights. I wish you all could have been there! Oh, and thanks to Mark from ZONC for his help in getting the corral pass and being an all around good guy! v12horse Posted August 22, 2005 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2005 This really was a great event. This is the second time I have attended the Monterey Historics and it is always spectacular. The cars are unbeleivable. Just to name a few in attendance, Jaguar Silverstone XK120 (one of three in the world), Sir Sterling Moss's 55' Mille Migle winning 300SLR, Aston Marton DB4GT, Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari F40, Ferrari 250GTO, Ferrari 250GT SWB, and the list could go on. I have 290 photos from the event that I would like to post somewhere. Does anyone have suggestions about a site to use like shutterfly so everyone can see them? Here are just a few pictures. The famous #722 Mercedes Benz 300SLR driven by Sir Sterling Moss with Jay leno as the passenger as stated by 240zx, Ferrari F40, 68' Toyota 7 race car, and a few Z's in the corral. -Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17009-you-all-missed-it/#findComment-135212 Share on other sites
ChrisA Posted August 22, 2005 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2005 Yep, some nice cars. Wish I could attend someday. Have to admit my favorite would have to be the blue S30, (yes, I know its Ben's) Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17009-you-all-missed-it/#findComment-135230 Share on other sites
v12horse Posted August 22, 2005 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2005 Thanks Chris, it means a lot to me. Here is a Z and a few of its siblings that were in the corral. I thought the silver Z was really nice. The wheels were 14 by 6J Enkei 8-spoke's. I have only seen those wheels a few times. The tires were 205 by 60. The two 510's that were in the corral were raced in the 70's, but they are not BRE cars. They had 70's period parts and a beautiful patina. -Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17009-you-all-missed-it/#findComment-135240 Share on other sites

Pennyman Posted August 22, 2005 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2005 Yeah, it was great fun. Lot's of walking though. I'd LOVE to see a replica BRE 240z run the historics, hehe. More Panteras and Ferarris than I've ever seen in one place before. BTW thanks Mark! Alfadog Posted August 22, 2005 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2005 You guys just made me dizzy with jealousy!!! Seriously, that event looks like OVERLOAD. I can't comprehend it. We have a lot of classics in Australia, and some great events (e.g. Classic Adelaide), but it's still nothing like that.Ben, I have some space you could FTP to if you know how to generate a thumbnail web gallery with Photoshop (it's pretty easy). It would only be temporary though. There are some free places, like www.imageshack.us and www.photobucket.com if you want a more "permanent" place.I can't wait to see more pictures. BTW, guys, your cars look so damn cool parked next to each other like that. So cool... ChrisA Posted August 25, 2005 Share #11 Posted August 25, 2005 A big thanks again to those who've put up pictures. I have to mention the one car that really drew my attention. The 365 GTB/4 Competizione behind the Dino really is a beautiful car. Notice the rear roofline.
