Pennyman Posted September 7, 2005 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2005 Hey. I just bought an intake/exhaust gasket, but it doesn't seem right. I have an N42 head, square exhaust ports, but the gasket has funny shapes for the exhaust ports. They aren't round, they're more hexagonal. Shouldn't they be square? The box even says it's for my year Z, but the ports aren't square. What's going on? Can I still use it?It's a Fel-Pro gasket, and I wondering if it's possible if they tried to incorporate a couple port shapes into a single gasket. Pennyman Posted September 7, 2005 Author Share #2 Posted September 7, 2005 Ok, judging by the center ports, I think they're trying to incorporate 2 port shapes into one gasket. Will it work? Ed Posted September 7, 2005 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2005 It will work but it's not the correct gasket. There are 3 different types. Round, Square (rectangular) and the hex. Get a gasket for the year 75-76 that's the years the N42 head was used. Pennyman Posted September 7, 2005 Author Share #4 Posted September 7, 2005 Here's a site with the gasket. they said it was for the 75-83 Z...Look's like they got it wrong?http://www.pickproparts.com/pictures/result.aspx?linecode=fel&partnum=MS91034% Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17174-exhaust-gasket-troubles/#findComment-137309 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted September 7, 2005 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2005 I have a 78 L28E (round) and a 79 L24E (square). Though the site say it fits both(!) it doesn't match either of my heads. Pennyman Posted September 8, 2005 Author Share #6 Posted September 8, 2005 Thumbs down for Fel-Pro on this one. Looks like they have some more homework to do. I'm going to return it and get one from MSA. At least then I know they'll send me the right one, even if it does take a little longer.
