Hi guys, new here. I belong to a few car forums

online, and visit when time permits. You all seem

like a good bunch of guys so I decided to ask here

about my car.

I own 2 Zs. A very rust free 72 240 blue and white

needs restoration, but runs and drives. Its an Az and

Ca car so the rust free part is legit

My other is what I call and is titled as a 71 Fairlady.

This car was in Hawaii for some yrs and on the base

in SD Ca for several. Has its share of rust thats for sure

but its restorable. 2.0 motor, 5spd, cruise control, rear window defroster etc..

Im trying to find out more about the car overall.

Serial # is S3006448. It only has 28k kilometers on it

which makes sense since the guy who owned it lived on base and really never drove the car then passed on and it sat for yrs. The best I can tell I can use US parts in place of many of the rusted JDM parts (doors, hatch etc)

Any input would be appreciated.

Wow thata's a gem in the rough but if you're up to it you'll have something really nice when you're done...looks like it has dealer installed 5-slot wheels with the "D" logo, the original style rear spoiler and flares...and a right hand driver...curious how the PO exported it to the states...

To your ? I think that most of the "generic" parts for the 70-73 should be interchangeable...does yours have the rear vents in the rear hatch...those are different than from later in '71 on...what's the manufacture date? Being a righthand driver it mave have some peculiarities in parts...I think there are some specific Fairlady sites that can also be of more help...

from your pics it looks like the only parts that need replacing would be

USDM parts (with the exception of the dash). what exactly are you asking? it's definitely a decent starting point as long as you don't mind a little work.

I like seeing these time-capsule finds even if they're not prisitine. It's informative for me to see how these cars were trimmed back in the day e.g. was the '71 tranny tunnel carpeted or diamond vinyl, when did the quarter panel window emblem change, where was the emblem on the rear wing, where to mount the fender mirrors, etc. Thanks for pics...good luck with your project! (I don't have much experience with RHD cars but I'm left-handed in a right hand oriented world :D ) What was the manufacture month of your car? Mine was 4/71 and has the "later" style quarter panel emblems (I believe they are original to the car...but this conflicts with the supercesion dates I've seen elsewhere...just some Z-nutia...

Yeah, I collect alot of different style cars.

Many can be found out here in the SW, esp some

little towns outside the city etc.

So know one else here has production #s or info

on these cars ? or about the Pkg on this particular

car ?

the wheels are steel slots, Ill have to see what name is on the cap tomorrow. They could be jdm, but they arent

alloy slots like the US cars. Im going to eventually rechrome them if they are jdm, but maybe Ill sandblast the backs of the tomorrow when I put some new tires on them.

Hello, your Fairlady Z appears to be the more luxurious ZL model as you have the 5 speed transmission, rally clock, and passenger foot rest. I am curious, are the flares bolted or riveted on? The spoiler appears to be an original nissan spoiler because it has the area for the emblem to bolt on. On the front side of the spoiler towards the window, are there two bumps or is it smooth?

I am glad to see another Fairlady Z here in the states. Good luck with the restoration and keep us posted.

I wondered what that was in the front of the passenger area...you've got very good eyes to notice the 5-speed...I recently picked up a 432 style rear wing from CDM it has the "aero" ribs, is that OEM style? I'm going for a BRE/432/Jag influenced makeover...it won't be a spot on reproduction but I hope that the styling cues meld well ... :)

He said that he had a 5spd, but it does look like it is in fifth gear doesn't it.

I believe that the aero ribs were present on the 70-71 oem spoilers, but I am not positive. That is only a hypothesis that I have made from looking at pictures of Fairlady Z's that had them during those years. I have not seen a picture of a supposedly original car with the aero ribs 72-later.

From what I have been told and what I have seen, the decklid spoiler made by Classic Datsun Motorsports is the best reproduction of this spoiler on the market. It will definately give your car a classic look.
