Gee Lance, the problem with answering these kind of questions is that I realize how inferior my memory is. I think it will come out without meesin with the u-joint.I took apart a parts car a year and half ago and it might as well been 10 years. Maybe someone with brain cells left will chime in.

steve

I believe it will come out without disassembly of the U-joint. Even if the U-joint won't (and I think it will) pass through the firewall, the lower half is splined to the upper half and will slide out as you remove the steering wheel colum. Any help?

You can remove the column without taking the u joints or coupler apart.

Undo the other end from the steering rack (you have to remove the bolt completely).

Then the steering column center pole thingo will slide out of the steering column.

It's splined in the middle.

Or you can just remove the steering column, and it will slide off leaving the part from the engine bay sticking throught into the cabin.
