mlc240z Posted September 23, 2005 Share #13 Posted September 23, 2005 need someone with an originally placed hood ornament (in the holes) to do me a quick favor.i need the measurement from the point of the hood to the bottom of the ornament. the PO had bondoed the holes and attached the ornament with tape and it just doesn't look like it's in the right spot. since he did a lousy bodywork job and the nose of the hood 'droops', it looks even worse. i need to know if it's the bodywork or the placement of the ornament.thanks in advance, bart Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17371-hood-emblem-question/?page=2#findComment-139299 Share on other sites

Go240Zags Posted September 25, 2005 Share #17 Posted September 25, 2005 Rear badges are plastic as far as I know, except for the "240Z" badge with the Chrome Z (its metal) instead of the recessed white Z (plastic). Rear "Datsun" ones I have are both plastic (one believed to be the original the other a new oem replacement).Side "Datsun" badges i've seen are plastic. (original and oem replacments)Side round "Z" vent badges are metal (original badge, dont know about oem replacments). they are plastic on the 260/80 2+2's.Front hood round "Datsun" badge oem replacement is plastic. Never had a z with an original.I think possibly the early cars got all metal badges, then nissan swapped over to plastic for some of the badges. but thats just a guess. On my 12/70 build date Series I 240Z the side (fender, wing) Datsun badges are metal as are the non-vented pillar badges and both the Datsun and 240Z hatch badges. My hood badge was missing, and all I have seen since are plastic, but I have heard they too were metal. My vent grill badges on the hatch are plastic though - both the originals (at least the ones on there when the car found me) and the replacements. All the NOS badges I've seen being sold are chromed plastic. Would like a metal hood emblem, maybe I'll see if I can't have one made somewhere. lonetreesteve Posted September 25, 2005 Share #18 Posted September 25, 2005 My '71 has a nice metal hood badge, but the rest are all plastic (except for the vent badges). My '72 has all plastic badges, again except for the vent badges. I have a metal rear hatch "Datsun" that I bought off a junked '70, but it has some small pits in the chrome. I'd love to find another metal hood badge in nice condition and put it on my '72 when my son and I complete the restoration. Any idea of price, especially sending it to the states. Of course it would fit in a padded envelope and shipping might not be too bad. Keep me in mind and maybe we will hear from Zedrally on the quality. Gary D.
