I just want to ask a silly question .. but I would like to be sure about this .. Are the doors of a 71 240 the same as doors from a 77 280 ? Can I swap them ? I have a parts car (71 240) and am using some of its parts from my 77 280 . If i can I may restore the doors from my 240 and then swap them onto my 280 without being without doors for a lenght of time. The 280 is my driver.

Thanks ..B

Mid year on the 74 260z.

Okay, you made me research it. According to this post: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=587619&t=587615, it was in 76. (Edit: Just to clarify, the post I linked specifically talks about windows interchanging, but I believe the author implied that the latching hardware changed at the same time.)

So, who is going to the next big meet to research and document the answer? :)

IIRC, the doors are basiclly the same 1971-1976. Some changes to the interior door panel, changing the armrest, opening mech. attachment and different intrusion protection inside the door. The 77 & 78 doors had the door lock pull moved about 3" forward and the latch mech was changed. The 77 & 78 will not work on an earlier Z without much time and expense.

Good to know. So to summarize, if I need to replace the doors on my early '71 (and I may need to), I can use later doors (with minor mods) as long as they have the same type door striker. Probably up through '76, subject to verification. Sound right?

There is one big caveat. The donor car CANNOT be a 2+2.

Oh, and I think you have to go to the pick and pull on an odd Tuesday with a full moon to ensure full compatibility.
