My daughter' Z Posted October 8, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 8, 2005 I know this sounds backwards, but I am considering reinstalling the correct bumpers 0n the '76 2+2. The ones on the car now are supposedly from a 240 and I like the look, but they are a little banged up. Is there anyone that has 280z bumpers laying around that would be willing to part with them at a reasonable price? As a bonus(?) I might be willing to trade the 240z bumpers (if that is what they are). You can see what they look like in my gallery.Gary Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17541-280z-bumpers/ Share on other sites
dogma420 Posted October 8, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 8, 2005 FYI--Those bumpers are off of a 74-74.5 260z...not 240z. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17541-280z-bumpers/#findComment-140965 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted October 8, 2005 Share #3 Posted October 8, 2005 Actually they're from a early 74 260z. To reinstall the large bumpers, you'd need the trim panels that fill the space between the bumper and the body, and the energy absorbing shock mounts also. Since the p.o. has already done the necessary modifications to install them, it would be less hassle to just have your present bumpers straightened and rechromed. Most people don't care for the larger bumpers anyway from what I read here. I happen to like them on the cars they belong on. My daughter' Z Posted October 9, 2005 Author Share #6 Posted October 9, 2005 Thanks for the clarification on the bumpers Steve. I guess I could have looked at the galleriy and figured it out if I was not so lazy. I understand about the hassle of putting the correct bumpers back on, but I assumed it would be more expensive to straighten and recrome, or even replace the current ones. Anyone have a ballpark figure for this activity? Ummm...I really would rather not put ZX bumpers on it...is that even possible? DatsunZsRule Posted October 9, 2005 Share #7 Posted October 9, 2005 "Ummm...I really would rather not put ZX bumpers on it...is that even possible?" That would be a big hell NO LOL I have to agree with sblake. Since the previous owner already did the conversion, it would be easier for you to just get another one off a early 260Z thats in good shape. LB260Z Posted October 11, 2005 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2005 ACTUALLY, If I may interject here, but those bumpers are off of two different year models. the rear bumper is in fact off a 240 and the front is off an Early 260.thank you. oldroaddog Posted October 11, 2005 Share #9 Posted October 11, 2005 I'm with sblake01 and prefer the look of the original 280Z bumpers for that model. What's going to be really expensive though (from my experience) is purchasing the rubber for them. I replaced the center covers, end pieces for both front and back. The only rubber that came with the car are the bumperettes. I can say with confidence that the parts I bought cost over $1500.00 new from Too Intense Restoration. According to Troy there - you might want to get those soon. Inventory at Nissan is low and you know they won't be making those again.
