RogerZ Posted October 16, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2005 Anyone know of a speedo you can swap from another type vehicle to replace the 0-85 they put in the early 80 cars. I had one from a Nissan Maxima that went to 130 or so that looked like it would drop in a Z console but was unsure of what rpm needed to make it work. My 300 nicely tells you that 1100 rpm is 60 mph put a drill on it and sure was. I've got a 81 turbo stock. I'm thinking most Japan speedos come from the same guys since they only have about seven real companies over there. Anyone tried this???Anyone know what seats you can swap into a 85 300 turbo the originals are that leather vinyl mix and gone. Virto Posted October 16, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 16, 2005 Assuming you have a 280ZX, MSA sells factory speedometers that don't have the federal 85mph limit. Not sure on current price or availablity. As for swapping in another, as long as it fits the cluster and keeps the same pace, I don't see a problem, except maybe for your state's laws regarding a non-original odometer. Not sure what you can get a donor from. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17650-speedo-swaps-and-seats/#findComment-142004 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted October 16, 2005 Share #3 Posted October 16, 2005 Check the speedometer from a 79 280ZX. Wasn't it 120mph? I seem to remember discussing that with a Zx owner at a car show a while back.
