78 280zcar Posted October 23, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2005 I bought this shifter boot for my 280z. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=32869-S30But when it is in neutral it pull the boot up, is it suppose to be like that or no. I finally got my engine back together havent got to run it yet, I am a little scared to start it because I put 3000.00 into the engine and to have it not start would really upset me. I will post some pics of it tomorrow and pics of the shifter boot to see what I am talking about. webdawg1 Posted October 23, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2005 Did you use the "Hold Down Ring" and four screws to attach the "Shift Boot" to the transmission tunnel ?? Should look like the following attached image... webdawg1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17699-shifter-boot/#findComment-142691 Share on other sites

78 280zcar Posted October 24, 2005 Author Share #5 Posted October 24, 2005 First gen Z, I already bought the one off of webdawgg1. But thanks anyways. I finally tried to start the car today, . It has gas leaks on the fuel rail. And the timing is off it looks like I will have to pull the sway bar and redo the oil pump :disappoin . But it started! I need to ask, what is the best sealant for sealing up gas leaks. I have an aftermarket fuel rail and there is threaded plugs that he gave me to plug up the holes that I am not using and those are leaking. Thanks Shane Oh and about the pics, I left my camera over at my moms house. I will get it tomorrow and post them on here. It's just to say Thanks for everything that you guys have helped me out with on my car. LanceM Posted October 24, 2005 Share #6 Posted October 24, 2005 I would use teflon sealer on the plugs, I would keep away from teflon tape in that area as I wouldn't want any pieces of tape getting loose and blocking injectors.
