sblake01 Posted October 23, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2005 I don't know about it's strength but the U.S. Maxima (RWD) auto is a four speed and it bolt up to a L engine. Don't know about it's fit in an S30 or what the car is called over there. Perhaps a 910. TomoHawk Posted October 24, 2005 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2005 The Jatco trans was used in a number of cars and small trucks, so that might give you an idea of how it holds up. The Jatco trans had a couple four speeds- one with a hydraulic lockup converter, and one with electric. Will is working on how to hook one up to the L28 engine in the S30 car. Mostly you need a modified trans mount and custom drive shaft. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17703-automatic/#findComment-142774 Share on other sites
Caen Fred Posted October 24, 2005 Author Share #4 Posted October 24, 2005 Well a Maxima over here is ... a Maxima !Back to the post, who have a perfo/auto in the club?Could it run in the low 8' for the 0-60 Miles whithout trashing the box?The handling of the Z is so Kart like that a perfo auto/Z would be fun (if not the fastest) around a track, no? hls30.com Posted October 24, 2005 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2005 I am exploring the 4 different varieties of Jatco 4NB to find which one is the strongest-probably for the same reasons you are asking these questions. The swap from the Maxima OD has been done, and is outilnes in a tech article on one of the other Z sites. I had no involvement in that, buit it looks fairly easy to do. The reccomended autood tranny for a high output engine is the Jatco out of a Turbo Mitsubishi starion, add to that some 300Z pieces, and you have the group the author of the article reccommends.I went looking for the article on both HyridZ and Zcar.com, but did not find it.I did copy the article, and will see if I can I can find it.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17703-automatic/#findComment-142834 Share on other sites

Trans held up fine for several years. I used to manually shift it a lot on windy roads, never had any trouble with the transmission at all. I had planned to swap in a 5 speed but got rear ended and the car was totalled. First Gen Z Posted October 24, 2005 Share #7 Posted October 24, 2005 I did the 4n71B swap in my 78. You need to remove the trans mount ears from the floor pan. Have a driveshaft made and add a radiator with a fluid cooler.I fabricated a trans rear mount and wired the inhibitor switch. The rest is pretty much a bolt on. For hi performance use there is a company in AUS that makes HI PERF parts. I found their web site by searching "4n71B transmissions". I did the conversion to make my car a better road car. RPM's dropped to 1200 at 60 MPH. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17703-automatic/#findComment-142837 Share on other sites
