I thought that 280's had internally regulated alternators. So I don't think that you have one in your engine compartment, it should be under the black cap on the alternator.

I could be wrong though.

Scott

Well, you're not completely wrong. Most 280Zs came with externally regulated alternators. The change came in 78. If Jay got an internally regulated alternator by mistake, my guess is that the voltage would read too high (personal experience).

Heres a pic I found on the internet of where it should be on a 75z

under that black panel...youll have to remove some 10mm bolts to get to it.

found this pic at: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/alternatorswap/

but im not the expert on 280z's so someone chime in if im at error here.

yeah i found it today.

i replaced it... no such luck. still same issue. car will not receive more than 12.50 from ALT< than voltage drops by 3's for abotu 2 minutes, athan car will stall out.

Ensure your fusible links are in good condition, and test your voltage regulator to ensure it is within specs. The testing procedures for voltage regulators can be found in the factory service manual or in the Haynes manual.

i made new fuseable inks yesterday out of fuseable link wire. im gonna test my VR today with my voltage meter. i suppose i just have the neg on the battery and use the posative wire on each post in that circle plug. do i do this with the car running?
