With a 1976 280Z cali Z do i need to pass emissions in Massachusetts? what i hear is that its 84 and up or something like that. Any idea where i can find out any of this? I dont wanna remove all the smog equipment and throw on a exhaust that could never pass emissions if i need to pass it... obviously.... anyways any info on it would be great, i know its been brought up in the past but not sure if anything specific has been.

Each state is different. The most stringent are CA and NY. I am a used car dealer in CA, and the new law is 1976 and newer need all of their smog equipment. So you could take a 1975 280Z and convert it to carburators. Don't know if this helps. Rick.

You don't need a test according to their website at:

http://www.vehicletest.state.ma.us/generalinfo.html#exemptions

Here is what it says:

Are any vehicles exempt from the Enhanced Emissions Safety Test?

Every vehicle must be brought in for a safety test every year. However, model year 1983 and older vehicles will not be required to have emissions tests. New cars will be exempt for their first two years.

I can't find any description of what the safety test is but usually it includes stuff like headlights, brake lights, turn signals, mirrors, etc....Basic stuff.

I just did a google search to get the answer and I live in Arizona so you might double check this.....
