A black 280Z has been parked in front of my house since last weekend. The steering wheel column cover is off and the radio is missing. The car looks otherwise unmolested...doesn't look broken into...license plate starts with "2XUX"...I'm starting to look at it as a parts car...

Dude, do the right thing and call the cops. Let them worry about it. If it is stolen they will ensure the rightfull owner gets his car back.:)

Of course...that's why I put the word out here...if it's one of our Z-bro's, I'd like to get them back together...I wouldn't cannibalize a perfectly good Z...yet...

Call the cops mate, while they can still lift any finger prints.

Rick.

rick, you apparently are not familiar enough with US crime statistics. cops lifting fingerprints? not unless there's a dead body in the trunk. they're too busy writing speeding tickets (revenue enhancement) or popping drug gangs.

in my part of the country, they estimate 3-4 cars a day are stolen in las vegas alone. cops just don't worry about it, hence, why it happens so much. we are on our own here.

I agree!!

I had all my carpentry tools stolen out of the back of my truck (with a locked snugtop) in Fresno. The cop gave me some BS answer that he couldn't life prints, the truck was too dirty. There was a PALM PRINT, with fingerprints, on the slide window, going from the bed into the cab. Foot prints all around. He took some pics, said that the tools were probably at some auction or flea market 300 miles away. If nothing's dead, the cops don't care.

Clutchdust and matman,

Gary and Mat,

I really feel for you blokes then.

In my neck of the woods the boys in blue, (who I hold in very high regard), will bust a gut trying to catch ANY law breaker. A stolen car would be dusted from bonnet to boot and they still manage to find the time to bust the druggies.

Hi Rick .. Back in '95 I married my wife in Adelaide SA (where we were living at the time). I had my ute stolen on the eve of our wedding. The wedding went great and all had a good time, and one of my mates found the Holden HQ on his way home. It had afew booze bottle in it with clear fingerprints on them and the cops didnt care.

Sounds like it is different up there in Joh's land! (RHS)

Cheers ..Bruce

Rick;

Unfortunately, a LOT of the time it isn't the "boys in blue" but the maroons in the court that are the problem. The cops will aprehend and send to jail and then the bleeding heart liberals will scream about the rights of the criminal and the perp will find himself in and out of jail faster than the cop can finish the paperwork.

Then the real fun begins, because if the perp tried to run away and in getting caught he fell and skinned his knee, then once again the liberal maroons will now sue the cop, the city, the county, the state, and anyone else even remotely near the scene for having "infringed" upon the perps "rights". (Don't you know it is well within a perps rights to run away, but NOT for the cops to chase him?)

And if the perp FOUGHT while being caught?

Then it's worse, because the REALLY bleeding heart liberals jump in and demand that the police department be summarily investigated and dismissed, because "everyone" knows that a perp would NOT fight back unless he was being "abused". Then they get REALLY suit happy. That's when the family of the perp jumps in and we find out that this saintly, never-do-wrong, outstanding pillar of his community was caught in a stolen car because he was RETURNING it .... after having had it for 3 months, due to important family needs. Oh, and the 3 pounds of Meth and 5 pounds of Heroin? He FOUND those, and was distributing free of charge to those poor individuals who can't afford them anymore. The stolen merchandise? He just lost his receipts.

It's the bleeding heart maroons that have turned the Bill of Rights into the Bill of Wrongs, it's the CRIMINALS that have their rights protected and NOT the victims. It seems that ANY attempts at correcting even ONE form of this, turns into TWENTY methods of .....again....protecting the criminal.

I sometimes think the Romans had it right, with their Colisseum games. But as written before, "The first thing we do, let's get rid of the lawyers!" They have a VESTED interest in prolonging, complicating, and exacerbating the proceedings time and time again....they get paid by the HOUR whether you win or not. And, haven't you heard? They're now making it a CRIME to SPEAK of anything legal.....without being a lawyer! Geez, even the Military can be held in check, but not the bleeding heart lawyers.

E

E has it right. the cops are the good guys but unfortunately, unless they have an air tight case of some bad guy doing something especially henus(sp), they're not going to waste their time. i don't necessarily blame them, i wouldn't want to bust my a$$ only to watch someone come along and pi$$ away everything i did. the courts and lawyers are our problems. the unfortunate truth is, this is our solution:
