I bought a SU rebuild kit. I took the carbs completely apart cleaned everything. Put on the new parts and put everything back together. The pistons move at the same speed. The needles and the seats match up perfectly. The pistons go all the way down. The floaters are parallel to the lid.

So there ready to be installed right? If not what’s left? What fluid do I add into the top part of the carbs? How do I know if they’re both functioning the same when I put them on?

Nissan specifies 20W oil for the dampers although people have successfully used other oils and even ATF (automatic transmission fluid).

To insure that they're both functioning the same you need a tool called a unisyn flowmeter. You can get the meter as well as a great video showing how to tune the carbs here:

This may be of help to you . The adjustmnet that is under the carb , the one where the fuel line connects . Turn this clockwise to the stop . This is the mixture adjustment , lean/rich , now turn the adjustment counter clock wise 2 1/2 turns . This should be a good starting place as to the mixture . The engine should run at least. As to dampenener oil in the carbs , as was already stated 20w is what the factory recommends and after trying several oils , I found they were correct . at least for me. ATF is 5w and too thin . I could only find 20w at a cycle shop and it is used for the front forks , Fork oil. Try some 10w30 . You only need about 5cc for each carb. Go to the Tec section and look for Adjusting SU carbs . There is a step by step on how to do the adjustments. I found my UNI-SUN carb air ballance tool at my local parts store in the speed section . $25.00 , but that was about 6 years back.

Hi Tristan,

Here's a link with some info I provided on how to adjust the carbs:

http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20319&highlight=carb+balance

Before you install the carbs, make sure the float level is adjusted properly. The links on the other thread cover all of this. Also, make sure the throttle opens 0.023" when the choke lever is applied. Applying the choke should also pull the fuel nozzles down about 1/4".

Once you put them on you will need to balance the carbs, adjust the mixture and set the idle speed. Refer to the other thread, you will also find a lot of info if you search the site.

I hope this helps! Post some pics of your Z car when you get a chance!
