ASA240z Posted March 2, 2006 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2006 My friend just bought a 79' 280zx off of ebay the past week. At first the car would start just fine. But for the past few days the car wont start and we hear a clicking noise when he turns the key.Probably the starter... I'm just not sure how to check that.Anyway it's not the battery as I checked the voltage and thats fine...Any sugestions would helpthx,Allen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19067-280zx-ignition-help/ Share on other sites
montoya_fan01 Posted March 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2006 "checking" the voltage of the battery isn't enough to eliminate it as a possible source of the problem.below are the first few steps that I would take:1. remove both battery cables, and clean the terminals VERY well. 2. have the battery LOAD TESTED at a local parts store or auto shop. Charge/replace as required. The clicking you hear is probably the starter solenoid trying to engage the starter drive gear.PS Many local parts stores can test your starter if you bring it in to them.
