jmark Posted March 3, 2006 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2006 As far as I know these were the only factory option wheels in 77/78. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19091-where-these-rims-dealer-option-for-78/#findComment-158013 Share on other sites
hls30.com Posted March 3, 2006 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2006 NO!Not listed in any of the parts listings for any S30, maybe a non nissan, dealer add on, but absolutely not a factory part. With a reserve near $500, he will be holding them for a long time. Used Spoked rims that are rusty have maintenance issues, and probably that means a repair bill in the $500-$1000 range-to replate them they have to be dissassembeld(there is no buffing out in a rusted chrome plated rim), and that means they will have to be trued when they are put back together, and that assumes there are no bent issues and that the spokes are all in good shape-Dayton Wire Wheel does restorations on any brand of wire wheels, and they aint cheep-usually it costs less to replace than to restore-unless the brand of wheel is important (Borranis on an italian car).Good shape for 30 year old wheels may well mean they are safe stacked on the floor of the garage, but put them on a car....Assuming the seller will realize he is wrong, and do away with his reserve, be carefull, ask lots of questions, get lots of high resolution pictures, and check out some of the jag/mg sites on what wire wheels need(the splines will not be an issue on this type of wheel). Arne Posted March 3, 2006 Share #4 Posted March 3, 2006 Those are old Appliance Industries wire wheels. They could have been dealer installed when the car was new (they are the right age), but they weren't factory approved in any way, shape or form. The dealer in question would have purchased them from a local distributor. hls30.com Posted March 3, 2006 Share #5 Posted March 3, 2006 Somebody got to him, and he seems to have checked it out-still look into the cost to restore the wheels-when added to the cost of the wheels, a new set of Daytons with stainless steel spokes(much lower maintenance) and tubeless design may be too close to pass up for used wheels. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19091-where-these-rims-dealer-option-for-78/#findComment-158023 Share on other sites
Arne Posted March 3, 2006 Share #6 Posted March 3, 2006 I agree with most of Will's comments, with the addition that those Appliance wires - unlike Tru-Spokes - are tubeless. The spokes attach to a retainer that was welded to the inner drop of the rim. So the spokes do not go into the air chamber at all. It was a superior design for aftermarket wires in the day. But re-chroming them will still be a b_tch.
