72240Z Posted April 3, 2006 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2006 Did a 600 mile road trip in my Z this weekend winding through California's redwoods and wine country. I can't think of a better car for a trip like that.Devin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19496-what-zs-are-meant-to-do/ Share on other sites
Hrududu Posted April 7, 2006 Share #2 Posted April 7, 2006 Damn, yours must be a nice one. I drove mine for 2 hours and that was about all I could take. It was a nice ride and all, but the noise and lack of cruse control made it a little less than cumfy. I drive my Buick on long trips. Not half the style or speed, but REALLY cumfy and quiet. The sound system is also superior in ALL ways. I will say, the new seats in mine were a joy when driving that 2 hours though. Better than the old ripped seats. Fun_in_my_z Posted April 7, 2006 Share #3 Posted April 7, 2006 I maid a 12 hr trip with my Z. The AC worked great the whole time. The problem is it was 20 degrease outside (and my car dont got ac)But i never had much Jet lag over all it was a fun trip. 72240Z Posted April 8, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted April 8, 2006 Aside from a couple of squeaks and rattles, mine goes down the road about like they did when new. I rebuilt the suspension last year, mainly new struts, and a few bushings. The seats are still original and in good condition. It doesn't have cruise control of course, but 4 out of my 5 cars don't. Not a big deal. I've done this same trip in my 2004 Altima a number of times and it's very boring. Driving my Z keeps me interested in where I'm going.Devin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19496-what-zs-are-meant-to-do/#findComment-162688 Share on other sites
olie05 Posted April 8, 2006 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2006 I drove my Z about 1000 miles (houston TX to orlando FL) and back last month! I have no complaints here, and this was all with no heater or ac. Not once did the Z complain! Blue Meanie Posted April 23, 2006 Share #6 Posted April 23, 2006 Just drove mine to Sam's Club (BTW, the Z was not designed for bulk shopping) and smoked a 2001 Mustang GT in the process. Man that is fun! The SOB never saw it coming either. That made it even better!!! gogriz91 Posted April 24, 2006 Share #7 Posted April 24, 2006 My problem isn't the ride it's the exhaust and the noise. I'm exhausted (no pun intended) after about an hour in the car, the fun factor just starts to drop after that. =Enigma= Posted April 24, 2006 Share #8 Posted April 24, 2006 gogriz91, you should really fix that exhaust problem. I had a buddy who had an exhaust leak that he didn't even know about(could smell anything0, and it put him in the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning. He had been feeling run down and sick for several weeks before he finally decided it was more than the flu. A little oxygen treatment and some pills and he was on his way top recovery. Turns out he had a hole in the muffler of his VW van and the fumes were leaking into the car via a small hole in the rear hatch area. Sound familiar? olie05 Posted April 24, 2006 Share #9 Posted April 24, 2006 I was in the same boat until I fixed my exhaust fumes as well. I could only stand to drive my car for short (<30min) drives. now that i fixed them i can stand to go on 16hr drives ... see above. I had the same problem with my Z until changed new mufflers, new weatherstripping and tried to find all the holes where the fumes came in. After that I could take a drive without having a bad headache after 30 min.
