JZM Posted April 7, 2006 Share #2 Posted April 7, 2006 Yes it will fit.And you will need the mustache bar and the front diff mount for a R-200 Also ck and make sure the front diff flange is the same as what you have in your car,if not you will need to change it out and retorque the nut to spec 122.9 to 144.6 ft-lb.hope this helps out.JZM.. LanceM Posted April 7, 2006 Share #5 Posted April 7, 2006 Unless I'm mistaken you will need a mustache bar from a 280z not a ZX. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19538-r200-question/#findComment-162668 Share on other sites

Hrududu Posted April 7, 2006 Share #7 Posted April 7, 2006 just my luck. My diff is fried and knocks and clunks when I drive. I try everywhere and all i can find is a diff off a 78 for $130. Here one just falls in your lap. Sorry man, but I just had to say it. Just lettin off a little steam, I'm glad you found what you wanted. I really need to move somewhre where I can find parts easier, or I need to get rid of this car. I really need to move somewhre where I can find parts easier, or I need to get rid of this car.Clunks aren't usually caused by a bad diff. A bad diff will howl or will make horrific crunching noises when you turn, but the Z is known for having clunk issues that have to do with the diff MOUNT or the halfshaft and driveshaft U-joints.Check these pages to get some info on common diff noises and their causes:http://www.ringpinion.com/content/technicalhelp/default.asp?pid=109http://www.ringpinion.com/content/technicalhelp/default.asp?pid=110 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19538-r200-question/#findComment-162672 Share on other sites
Ed Posted April 7, 2006 Share #9 Posted April 7, 2006 Chris,Is this R-200 for your twin turbo project? If so you might consider a stronger diff. I don't frequent hybridz that often but I have read about guys blowing out the R-200 with the V-8 conversion. There is a different diff that they run, something like a R-270 or something. I'm not sure, but someone will correct me. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19538-r200-question/#findComment-162673 Share on other sites

But i'm just building the 350sbc with out the turbos for now untill i have $8000 grand to dump on the banks system and intercooler.. so i will only be running 4 or 5 hundred horses with just my natually asperated 350. I think i will be fine, but will prob eventually go with the corvette rearend!!! and yes I do check out hybrid z alot, but you guys are just so much more nice, and down right cool. I always get fast replys here in time of need and you guys are all around just more helpful to me, not that they aren't but you know. any ways thanks again!! now i just have to find that mustache bar out of an 280z!! Darrel Posted April 8, 2006 Share #12 Posted April 8, 2006 You will also need the front differential cross member and the rear curved cross member from a 280z if your '72 doesn't have it. Get the half shafts as well. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19538-r200-question/#findComment-162709 Share on other sites
